Re: NWP chrash with Sonoma 14.2.1 (23C71

Does this mean that NWP users such as myself should still hold off from updating? I'm quite happy to do so, as I don't know of any features provided by Sonoma that I actually need right now. I'll only update now if there are security issues that make it strongly advisable. I'm currently running Vent...

Re: Install beta for Sonoma crashes on App Store NWP?

G'day Adryan My reply would tend to start with " Yes, but... " Yes, but I'm continually reading that each new version of the OS fixes a host of security problems, often qualified with a phrase such as " which are currently being exploited ". From the software viewpoint, as expres...

Re: Install beta for Sonoma crashes on App Store NWP?

Given the problems noted on several recent threads here, and given the fact that, according to Tidbits, Sonoma is structured in such a way that it's difficult to revert to Ventura once you've installed it, I assume the best policy for NWP users is to hold back from upgrading until all this has been ...

Re: Use Nisus to annotate and index a Word doc?

On plunging into this job, I quickly realised that my question to the forum is almost impossible to answer, since so much depends on the quality of the original Word document. On examining the latter, I found that it was almost completely unstructured. What looked like footnotes weren't formatted as...

Use Nisus to annotate and index a Word doc?

I've undertaken to do some serious editing on a 17,000 word document in French that's been sent to me in Word (.docx) format. I'll be making annotated edits and creating an index before sending it back to other members of a team, needless to say in the same Word format. I haven't used Word for years...

Using Mac dictation with Nisus

Does anyone have experience with dictating text directly into NWP using Mac OS's inbuilt service? If so, I'd be interested in any insights or advice you may have. I'd also be interested if anyone's found alternatives to the Apple service that would allow high-quality voice recognition and seamless i...

Re: Error message using Nisus on a Synology NAS

Just to round off this thread, I ended up asking the company to take back the Synology hardware, which had finally been configured to correctly copy all of my Nisus files to my second Mac, but which proved far too complicated for a non-specialist like myself to understand. In particular, it couldn't...

Re: Non-specialist struggling with a Synology NAS

Update : The Mac-specialised company that installed the NAS, with whom I've always had good relations in the past, has now recontacted me to admit that the installation was the result of a major mix-up at their end. The technician who was sent had not got the required instructions as per my initial...

Many thanks for these replies, which have greatly helped in my negotiations over this issue. Re: Error message using Nisus on a Synology NAS

Many thanks for these replies, Martin and Tacitus. I've now abandoned the NAS device, and am hoping the company that installed it for me will advise me on reselling it, and also help me, at no extra cost, to make better use of my resources. The whole thing was much too complicated for me, and I quic...

Non-specialist struggling with a Synology NAS

The following is partly a question, partly an exercise in letting off steam. Any reactions welcome, but I'll understand if nobody has a solution. As noted in my recent message [ https://www.nisus.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12159 ] on the Nisus Writer Pro forum, I've become the not-so-proud owner of a...

Error message using Nisus on a Synology NAS

I recently decided to have a Synology network attached storage (NAS) set up in my small home office. The technician who installed it fixed my two Macs (an M1 Mini for the desktop along with a recent Intel MacBook Pro, both running Monterey 12.6) so that the NAS volume opened automatically on startup...

Re: Reliability of SSDs & other types of storage

Hi Adryan, I enjoyed your reply. Having had the privilege of visiting the Egyptian temples and pyramids a couple of decades ago, I agree that the pharaohs definitely had the edge as regards long-term data storage. I recall however that once the hieroglyphs were finally decoded, by the brilliant Jean...

Reliability of SSDs & other types of storage

Hello, After several years of buying those natty little Samsung SSD storage devices to back up the contents of my Mac, I've suddenly had one fail—and after less than three years. When these gizmos began to appear on the market, I got the impression that they would be much more durable, as well as mo...

Re: Bookends 14.0

Hi,
I have the same problem—in fact I've already installed Bookends 14.0, but can't get it to communicate with NWP.

When I asked Sonny Software about this, they seemed to be under the impression that you'd already posted an update to NWP which fixed the problem.

Best wishes
