Hi Bob,
Regarding your point 2, just don't use a return to create the blank line. Use the "space above" in the Styles settings, and the empty lines disappear very nicely at the top of the pages.
Best,
Peder

Geoff, Scott and dshan, you all make many thoughtful points regarding what a word processor should and should not be. We all work according to our special circumstances, and mine make me, if anything, rather side with dshan. Not only would most novelists not recognise an outliner if it bit them on t...

Bryan and Ryan: Glad I could be of some service :D This rtf thing seems to be a bit of a morass. I'm surprised the formatting in Word didn't come across into InDesign. For a long time I persisted with Word 5.1. Worked seamlessly with PageMaker, but ID refused to import that format, so the solution (...

I agree that NWE and InDesign still have a few issues – on which I've repeatedly harped in previous posts  – but until they are resolved (regardless of whether the responsibility lies with Nisus or Adobe) there are a few useful workarounds which I've found work reasonably well. For the record:...

So now that we have Unicode support in the alpha, I need a version that doesn't have blacked out tool and scroll bars  so that I also can enjoy it (I already enjoyed it a lot before it blacked out on me – se previous post). By the way, does the Unicode support also mean we'll have OpenType sup...

Strange 2.5 behaviour
I downloaded the first NWE 2.5 Alpha, and it worked beautifully (minor gripe with the handling of Styles posted elsewhere), but one day when I started ut up, the toolbar (not the Tool Drawer) and the scrollbars were all black, making that version unusable. Downloaded another copy, same phenomenon, d...

Style Sheet
I agree entirely with Paul – we seem to have very much the same setup, after all  , and maybe do very similar work. At the same time, having just downloaded the sneak peek of NWE 2.5, I also agree with Peter in that the new way of handling Styles is definitely an improvement. And so far the al...

Re:Find
Hi! Yes, you can. Highlight some formated text of the type you want to find, italic, bold, and then click on the underlined "a" in the bottom right margin (with the flag, etc). You'll get a pop-up meny with the alternative Select All. Chose this and all instances of the formatting througho...

Hi! This sounds very strange to me. Running NWE 2.1.1, and it does exactly what you want it to, but claim it doesn't. I just tested it so be on the safe side  Double-clicked a word, hit backspace, and only one blanks space remained. As far as I know I didn't choose this in any setting. Hope it...

NWE speed
Hi, I am having the same speed problem; initially I thought 2.1 was a great speed improvement, but as I'm nearing the end of my current translation (right now weighing in at 321 000 characters, 57 000 words – by no means a very long novel) the programme is getting unconscionably slow, particularly w...

Strange, I had my bad Style name experiences with NWE 2.0, and only with those Swedish characters (haven't tried them with 2.1). The Style names of the template document which I created in 2.0 have translated perfectly into 2.1. For instance, I changed from 2.0 to 2.1 in the middle of a translation ...

Style names
I had the same problem when I opened my first Word 5.1 docs in NWE 2. I hade one containing the Swedish letter "ö", and that translated into something rather garbled which behaved a bit oddly. My solution was to replace "ö" with "oe", but since both the old Word and InD...

I'm with you, James, and I, for one can't give you an explanation. With the same font, it should be (reasonably) possible. I think Nisus has to do something about font changes. I may take this more lightly than you and other potential users, but please remember, I speak from the perspective of someo...

James, Sorry to have to point out a few – let us say – inaccuracies in your post, but they do have a great bearing on what you're saying. Cocoa does not draw anything on the screen; Cocoa is a programming environment in which NWE has been developed. The graphics engine in Mac OS X is Quartz (Extreme...
