Re: Overstrike possible in Nisus?

Hi Steven - The Mac is no typewriter - I was told in times of old. The up to date way to handle your input is using FORMAT/STRIKETHROUGH in Nisus - then the text stays intact and is searchable - and you can import it to any other application. Give the text a note why you replaced with good reason a...

Re: Overstrike possible in Nisus?

The strikethrough approach completely destroys searchability. If you overstrike "Nisus" with a solidus, the text is logically "N/i/s/u/s/". The overstrike was a hack back then, dictated by the technical limitations of the time. Is it so important to reproduce the graphical impression that faithfull...

Re: Overstrike possible in Nisus?

Really this seems like a bug somewhere. Combining characters should keep both the originals at their standard baseline heights, no? You seem to misunderstand what an overstrike solidus is for. Somebody went to a lot of trouble to carefully match the baselines of the solidus with the characters to b...

Re: Overstrike possible in Nisus?

I can quickly add them to a whole string of existing text just by alternating the pattette and the arrow key to move the cursor. Nice. Hi, new problem with this. Unanticipated base-line shift with different characters. What happens is that the overstruck '/' is moved vertically to be centered with ...

Re: Overstrike possible in Nisus?

Hi Steven, That should do it and you'll see on screen "a̷". Got it, thanks. Two steps that fouled me up at first, for anyone else following through this in future: you have to make sure that: a) It's a 'combining' character already (you can't take just any character and combine). b) It's a combinin...

Re: Overstrike possible in Nisus?

Hi Elbrecht, Thanks, it sounds like you may know how to solve my problem. Unfortunately I can't figure it out based on what you've said. I think you may presuppose more knowledge on my part. I need a simple detailed step by step to get me started. What I want to do is combine a letter, say a with th...

Re: Overstrike possible in Nisus?

Elbrecht's suggestion to use a Unicode combining mark is a good one. You could also just tighten the kerning: I'll try the tightening, but in some cases there were several words in a row, with an overstrike on each character and space. I suspect it won't look right, but I'll try it. The Unicode con...

Overstrike possible in Nisus?

Hi, MS Word used to have the capability of overstriking one character over another. I don't find this in the Nisus manual. This would be a nice capability to have in general, but also I need this for a specific situation: I'm attempting to re-create (digitally) a manuscript that was originally typew...

Re: Para. shading margin problems - top buffer, lines

I'll attach an example here that uses page breaks to ensure the desired paragraphs show their bottom/top edges and padding. This example uses paragraph styles to enforce the boxed appearance, which of course is always a best practice. Hi, No, see my upload. When I say a 20 page chapter with text fl...

Re: Para. shading margin problems - top buffer, lines

Sorry we couldn't find something that works exactly right for you. Well, thank you for trying. Before leaving this problem as unsolved, can I confirm with you that if I were to use text boxes -- say putting one on each of 20 pages -- and then flow my text through them, I could control the padding t...

Re: Para. shading margin problems - top buffer, lines

Can you please upload the RTF file? I just tried it and it works fine for me (see attached file). I will if I must, but I don't think we're done with your example yet. :P When I add a few more lines to your example (see my upload), so it flows onto the next page, I get exactly the same behavior. Th...

Re: Para. shading margin problems - top buffer, lines

Hopefully that helps, though I might suggest you instead use page borders to accomplish this, since it sounds like that's what you want. Those borders can be controlled on a per-section basis, so you'd want to insert a section break at the end of page one. Hi Martin, Page Borders indeed solves the ...

Re: Para. shading margin problems - top buffer, lines

Make sure you have the same vertical padding applied to all paragraphs in the bordered region. You can do this by selecting all the paragraphs and adjusting the vertical padding en masse. I suspect one of your paragraphs (the last one on the page) has the padding set to zero. Hi Martin, No, see the...

Para. shading margin problems - top buffer, lines

Hi, I'm having a problem which I'll upload a screenshot of. Description: For one chapter of this book, I'm making a colored background with lines around it to hold my text. In other words a text box, but I'm not using text boxes because I want footnotes to work and I want all linking to work. I colo...

Floating Images exported to HTML are not included in code?

Hi, I'm using NWP 2.0.1. When I export from RTF to HTML, images in the resulting HTML page show up in the HTML code when they are inline, but when they are paragraph or page (floating) in the original RTF they don't get included. Instead there is a visible text line (visible in the browser) that say...
