Re: Intuitive vs. Doing It Like Word...
I also agree with someone on another thread who said that while NWE's approach to styles is very intuitive, it breaks down somewhat with list numbering which is a bit confusing. Mark That was me as well. I just wrote another long post about it in response to Martin. Yes, I've just seen that, as I h...

If these instructions don't yield the desired results, or you find a particular step difficult, please let me know. Perhaps we can refine the process to make it easier. Hi Martin, After a couple of moments fiddling about I got the hang of this, and found it apparently straightforward. It took me a ...

Mellel and Apple's Pages both handle subscripts correctly. Only NWE and TextEdit have this problem. As I understand it, NWE is built on the text engine as used in TextEdit, Mellel is not. Thought I haven't tried it with a recent version of Mellel, this showed up when I tried to open Word documents ...

Re: Intuitive vs. Doing It Like Word...
I think these are very intuitive, IMHO. However, a lot of people accuse software makers (especially word processors) of not being intuitive simply because the software doesn't work the way Word does. I would modify that statement slightly, with experience of the various threads on this forum: "...

Just a question to rmwalker ... Do you have any haxies running? I can't remember having seen any mention of them in this kind of context on this forum. They seem innocent enough ... I used to run ClearDock and Silk and a couple of others, but found strange things happening with some other app, not N...

It always interests me how we all assume that our experiences are shared by everybody. I have been using NWE since before it was NWE, and apart from a period using betas of 2.5 or 2.6 I have found it to be extremely stable. What bugs and issues I have reported have been dealt with very quickly and e...

Hi, Mark, thanks for your advice. I guess I will send Nisus a copy of the document. However I have found a bizarre workaround for this bizarre probelm. I saved the RTF in Nisus (even with the Helvetica font), then opened it in Word - surprisingly, no Helvetica here, but exactly the formatting I spe...

Hi, Agnostus, This sounds very strange. I suggest two things: (1) For yourself: open the document, select all and copy, then open a new document and from the Edit menu choose <Paste Text only> or use Cmd-shift-V. That will insert only the text without any of the formatting information, so you should...

punctuation in mixed documents
Has the stuff imported from Word all been created by whoever it is that is producing the Japanese? I often have a somewhat similar problem with the many documents that I deal with from Chinese colleagues who have created them with Word on PCs running the Chinese versions of Windows. The thing is, in...

Been a while since the last major update, eh? Have there been any rough estimates on expected releases? Not that long ... it's just that we got so used to having beta updates flying thick and fast over most of this year. I reckon the guys at Nisus are sitting there scratching their heads, wondering...

Re: What's the reason for 128% in zoom?
Anyway with Nisus Writer Express 2.7 the zoom menu goes in the following percentage increments: 25, 50, 75, 100, 128, 200, 400, 800 Why 128 and not 125? My guess is that it is to do with area ratios. For instance, if you have a canvas size of 800x600 and you want to convert it to 600x400--which is ...

Re: find and replace font
I am trying to figure out how to regularize my English fonts in a document, without changing the other languages in it. Right now the English fonts are either Arial or Times NR. I would like to change them all to TNR. Will it not do the trick to simply select all and then select TNR in the font pal...

More saving questions: In Nisus Classic, I had preferences set so Nisus saved a version of the doc every several minutes. It appeared in the same file as the current doc, but with an *. When I set the saving preferences in NWE, I don't see a way to make this happen. I have the program set at Overwr...
