Re: Image alt-tags
It is late 2020 and I still hate having to use or go through MS Word in order to generate a tagged PDF for use in the LMS at my college. I hope that Nisus will address this soon.

Re: Feature request poll...
I know that we have covered this before, but not in a poll. This might help the developers understand our needs a bit better. Scott One thing that I think you overlooked for many of us academics is more control over the way footnotes are displayed, how the number in the note looks and so on. Cheers!

Re: and
What kind of things do you use it for? I have used it to create folder actions. For example, when students send me work, I want to make sure it is not confused with stuff I have graded. I created a folder action that takes the file I drop in the folder, which I just got from the student, it adds th...

I concur about the style-based all-caps/small-caps. That would be incredibly useful, for things like titles or subheadings or what-have-you. I do it in CSS, and I want to do it in Express! Well, if NWE is going to support Unicode systematically then in will only be able to have small caps in those ...

Re: Problem getting worse — need advice
I have 768 MB memory with no other applications running. The problem appears to be getting worse. Instead of days before this appears (after restarting Nisus) it is now hours. Can you tell me how to do the remedies you recommended, or at least point me at the instructions? How do I uninstall and re...

How much memory do you have installed? What other applications are running at this time? Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling NWE to make sure you do not have a corrupt file? Have you checked your fonts in Font Book to insure that none of the fonts in your novel are corrupt? Just a few quest...

Re: Keyboard shortcut for Macros: problem
Making the Macro is no problem. But trying to assign the keyboard shortcut via Menu Keys doesn't work. Though it shows up on the drop down menu, applying the keyboard press has only the effect of unselecting the text. The macro itself works OK, but only via the Macro dropdown, which is too slow to ...

There is one point where I have to give the advantage to Mellel. If you use iListen as much as I do you will have noticed that Nisus is not nearly as responsive as Mellel is when dictating. Nisus will often bog down and get very slow. Correcting text is not nearly as quick in Nisus as it is in Melle...

The distinction to be made is between Greek with precomposed diacriticals and with combining diacriticals. For most uses of ancient Greek, the precomposed versions are fine - and so can be handled adequately by Mellel or Word. However, not all diacriticals that I need in my work come in precomposed...

One word: unicode. I stuck with Mellel for a while because I discovered unicode (when Word for Mac didn't support it) and saw that it was the future of computing for those using non-Roman alphabets; at the time, NWE was very basic (didn't even do footnotes). But as I discovered more about unicode, ...

Re: change space between text and footnotes?
Good question, I did some playing around with various settings and did not find one that would change that. Sorry!TimL wrote:Is there a way to change the space between the text and where the line begins that separates the footnotes? Right now they are too close together.

I find myself unable to do without either of them. Mellel provides much better control over footnote format than NWE. As an academic that is very important at times, as is its integration with Bookends©. On the other hand, I do outlines for students a lot, and I prefer Legal outline form (e.g., 1, 1...

I have just, I *think*, completed my first major project in NWE. 27 pages of text. 32 footnotes. 3 pages of works cited. Begun on the road in July in a dorm room in Limerick, Ireland and in a rented apt in SW London. Completed (again on the road) in Albuquerque, NM. Even writing all of this in vari...
