Re: What is Nisus doing when it is "typesetting text"?

I haven't posted anything since no one had a clue what the problem was or how to fix it, but I want to wrap it up. My computer is a late 2013 27" iMac with a 3.5 GHz Intel Core i7. It has 32 GM of memory and no modifications to OS X Mavericks. I also have a mid 2012 Retina MacBook Pro with 16 G...

Re: What is Nisus doing when it is "typesetting text"?

Okay, I have tried everything. I cannot use RTF as the transitional file format because it does not preserve styles. The DOC format does preserve styles and it also renders better when it is in Nisus. After I save it from Nisus, of course, there is no loss in the styles or the formatting. I exported...

Re: What is Nisus doing when it is "typesetting text"?

I forgot to thank you for the information about Zap Gremlins. I'm going to try that.

Re: What is Nisus doing when it is "typesetting text"?

I have been a Microsoft Certified Professional since 1997 and that is why I use a Mac . Microsoft Word has degenerated into an incoherent comic-book interface. They've made it so easy that it is too hard to use, plus the price tag is ridiculous. For that crap, they should pay us. If you want to tras...

Re: What is Nisus doing when it is "typesetting text"?

There were a lot of good ideas—and clues—in these last posts. I saved the file as RTF, ZRTF, and DOC and had the same problem with each format. The typesetting time of 15 minutes was subjective, because it took so long that I didn't watch it. Word 2011 (where it originated) opens it instantly from D...

Re: What is Nisus doing when it is "typesetting text"?

I'm the one who started this discussion. I'm sure that there is other software that's good for journals, but I didn't ask that question. My question was "What is Nisus doing when it is typesetting text?" "Why does this happen at all?" How the long file gets to be a long file and ...

Re: What is Nisus doing when it is "typesetting text"?

That's a good explanation, thank you. I have a 1,300 page journal with daily entries. It's a simple document and I've been keeping it since 1997. In Pages (which I'm replacing) and Word (which I'm avoiding) it snaps open instantly. Nisus takes 10-15 minutes just to open it, and the only visible diff...

What is Nisus doing when it is "typesetting text"?

Nisus is the only word processor that has a very lengthy "typesetting text" process as part of opening a document. What sort of process is "typesetting text," what is Nisus doing that takes so much time, and why is it necessary for Nisus to do it at all?
