Logically there are three main stages in writing a paper. 1 - the outline - getting your ideas in order. 2 - cranking out the words and putting in the references, 3 - layout and production work. For me at least, there is also 2.5, send your paper to co-authors for comments/revisions, 2.6 review co-...

Re: hmmm
how much would people pay for this feature. Well, if it were compatible with Word's change tracking function (and I don't see why it couldn't be) it would double the value of Nisus to me so probably about $50. Seriously. I do about half my word processing in Word and that is almost entirely because...

I agree that the "accept deletion" has an unnatural double negative to it, and I have incorrectly "deleted deletions" a couple times in Word. I think Ryan's mock up above solves this problem... if you click the red button you get the stuff underlined in red, if you click the green button, you get th...

A few comments. First, I agree that a nice way of comparing two documents would be great! Although, if people are complaining that the balloons use up too much screen width, compare really works best if you can see the two versions side by side. Second, I don't see why a better implementation of the...

How should change tracking be implemented?
The main feature that forces me to use Word sometimes is tracking changes. People with whom I share documents insist on using this feature even though I beg them not to. I really really hate Word's implementation of this feature, so I am hoping that the good folks at Nisus can do them one better. Fi...

I figure them's the brakes. How long has it been since they charged for an update? Since 2.0? That was what, a year ago? Personally, I'd like to see a "student bundle" like Mellel is offering—Bookends + Nisus for, say $70. That'd be a hell of a deal. I don't think they have ever charged for upgrade...

Is it my imagination, or am I not able to tell NWE to change the page numbering? That is, can I not tell NWE "begin numbering at..."? If you go to the section pallette there is a place to enter the number of the "Starting Page". I could not figure out how to make it skip the first page either. The ...

Re: LinkBack Across Applications, Not Within Applications
Probably, but it is a neat idea, and you wouldn't think it would be that hard to extend NWE and/or LB to be able to do this. Can other LB enabled programs do this? Is it a limitation within NWE or LB?dshan wrote:I think you are going beyond the defined/intended scope of LinkBack...

My list of "must haves": 1) Better graphics handling (minimally, text wrapping around graphics) 2) Improved macros (mininmally some way of incorporating the find/replace functionality into a macro) Other possible nice additions: 1) bookmarking 2) hyperlinking 3) outlining I would really like to see ...

Re: Nisus Writer Express 2.5 Beta 5
...if you would test for Classic file conversion... Thanks! Classic file conversion seems to have improved a lot. One question... It seems that the line spacing changes radically. That is double spacing in Classic is much narrower than double spacing in Express. There was some discussion about this...

When I try to find spaces, if I use "space" in the "special characters" submenu, it finds both spaces and paragraphs. One can work around this by just typing a space using the spacebar. Maybe "space" is supposed to me "white space" but then why is there a separate menu item for "space or tab"? Anywa...

WordPerfect for Windows kept its autosaves in a relatively inaccessible folder (equivalent to ~/Library/Application Support/Nisus Writer) and deleted them when the user exited the application or closed the document. If the app quit unexpectedly, the autosaved files would be retained. When you next ...
