(1) No problem with Nisus Writer Pro beta here. Deleting the dead-key entry deletes the yellow highlight at the same time and no keyboard lock-up. Unfortunately, perhaps, I have found the NWP beta to be so stable that I have removed Express from my system, so can't test it. Did you follow the steps...

That's great news. I look forward to it. Nisus Express has never crashed for me. There are no critical bugs, which I guess is why they felt they could work on the Pro version. The main bugs I see a lot of are minor display malfunctions. They're mainly to do with "pixel dust" — bits of characters lef...

This is standard behavior for native OSX applications. Pressing Option/Alt and "i" (or "e", etc) is called a "dead key", and is waiting for you to enter another character. Once you do so the dead key will be combined with that second character (if possible). An example: Option + "e" is the dead key...

Alt + I = some kind of weird acute symbol?
Every now and again I accidentally type Alt + I in an attempt to activate italics, rather than Command + I. When I do this, an acute-like symbol appears, highlighted in a yellow block. When I Cmd + Z to undo, the symbol disappears but the yellow block sticks around. Just now, I hit Ctrl + Z a second...

Autosave saved my life
Just wanted to point out that the autosave feature is probably one of the best elements of Nisus. I've got into the bad habit of sleeping my Mac when I'm away for it, even over the weekend. This weekend we had a coupe of power-cuts, so the sleep state was lost (I wonder why an iMac can't hibernate, ...

I was amazed at the number of people who said they routinely run apps while software update is happening. Would they live in a house while it's foundations were being dug up and replaced? Even more amazing were the number of people who insisted they would continue to do this despite now knowing the...

Re: NWE unstable after update
Last week I installed the following prompted by Software Update: 2007-05-14 15:34:30 -0400: Installed "QuickTime" (7.1.6) "Battery Update" (1.2) "AirPort Extreme Update 2007-003" (1.0) "Security Update 2007-004 (Universal)" (1.1) Since that, NWE has suddenly become very unstable, quitting out twice...

Re: Famous NWE users
I know this is not really a technological topic, but I thought I'd post anyway. I've just bought Michael Chabon's latest novel, The Yiddish Policemen's Union . Some of you may already be familiar with his work; if you're not, you can read about it on Wikipedia . Anyway, when I had a look at the fin...

Off topic: Bean
This is off-topic but I thought Nisus users might be interested. There's a new open source (free of charge) word processor out called Bean. http://www.bean-osx.com/Bean.html Like Nisus Express, it concentrates on simplicity, although it's several order of magnitude simpler than Nisus. It's a lot lik...

Start-up zoom level?
I have Nisus Writer Express set to start with a new document in page mode.
The problem is it always starts at 120% zoom, which is too small on my 20in iMac screen, and I always have to click and resize straight away.
Is there any way to make it start at a higher zoom level?

Footers
Is there anyway for each page to have a unique footer? I want to add footnotes to my doc. If I type into any page's footer, it's then duplicated on every page.
Thanks in advance.

Keypad enter -- what does it do?
Sometimes when editing text I use the keypad enter button to create a new line, moving my hand from the mouse to do so. But on Nisus Writer, the entire line is momentarily highlighted in yellow. What's happening?

Working from a USB memory stick
Bit of a strange question for you. I've got an iMac and, while it's quiet, the hard disk whirr is still noisy. I like to work in as much silence as possible so I've set the hard disk spindown timeout to 1 minute. What I'd like to do is make Nisus Writer Express save its files to a USB memory stick, ...
