Giving the Sneak Peek a try and looks good overall. When I look at the print preview the entire header block is black and the numbers in numbered lists (e.g. "1. ") are gray in the print preview.

Thanks.

Do you suggest these button icons aren't informative/intuitive enough?

Well my demo expired, so I'll have to look into how to reenable it...muahahaha. I need to try it out more before I justify the cost and subsequent frustration of learning something so different. Thanks Craig.

Is there going to be something like a "master style" that I can change to affect all subordinate styles for the document? Could I save this master style in my preferences?

I also want to delete all included styles so I can make my own (I'm very picky about aesthetics).

I suggest you simply try it. Create a couple paragraphs and/or sections using whatever formatting you envision your manuscript will contain. Export to Word and see what works.

Whatever it is, we should be able to modify the text, it's location, opacity, color, etc.

I think any program written for a Mac must use as many industry standards as possibl. OO .xml would be appreciated as would better .rtf (although .rtf is already pretty good).

I have been testing Nisus and Mellel side by side to help me decide on which one to get and Nisus is really slow on my 24 page (5,000 word) document. It contains one font, some tables, and a few graphics (that didn't import). Nisus was so slow it was painful.

Funny thing is, I asked them and they do not provide an educational discount (2 months ago) and I still cannot find the link to the site you referenced. How is anyone going to know about this discount unless it's advertised? Thanks for the info, I think I'm gonna plunk down my $40 and enjoy Nisus :)

Educational Discount

I am attending college and use Word 2004, but it is slow and quirky so I've looked at all the word processors I could find (e.g. Abiword, OO, Mellel, Nisus, Mariner, etc.). I've narrowed it down to Mellel and Nisus, like most users. I see few differences between the two except the pricing. I'd love ...

I think we Americans think the world revolves around us. You're right about the English dilemna. Why not add Southern English (south of the Mason-Dixon line) while we're at it? :)

Not offended. I pointed out a partial solution (I understand your issue with the text becoming delected) but this is one step forward and beats manually changing a lot of text. Why can't you simply do all the styling changes (where the text remains selected) then do the case change last, so when it ...

I was merely trying to help you. So it maynot be an ideal solution, but it is a solution, nontheless.
