Re: don't understand how to type header shortcuts
G'day, ronald et al For a start, what you are referring to are Paragraph Styles for headings, not a Header. For me, both ⌘H and ⌘H1 work as expected, each doing their own thing. Despite a concerted effort, I cannot find the ⌘H command anywhere in Keyboard Shortcuts, so I am not sure how one would al...

Re: how do you move items up and down lists with keyboard shortcuts ?
G'day, ronald et al Philip has written a couple of macros; viz, Move List Item Up and Move List Item Down. I am not sure whether they are now bundled with Nisus Writer, but they are available here:– https://nisus.com/forum/download/file.php?id=2163 To use them, you just position the cursor within th...

Re: how to change background colors. Confused by the number of choices
G’day, ronald et al I agree, it can be confusing. Preferences > Appearance > Colors > Document Views I concern myself here only with background colors, not text colors; and I don’t bother with the Navigator. Draft background → Entire usable portion of window in Draft View (basically the whole window...

Re: Simple footnote formatting question
G'day, Frank et al
View > Style Sheet > Note Styles > Footnote
Replace "xxx" in the attached screenshot with whatever you want to precede the footnote content. In the present case, it would be a period followed by a space.
Cheers,
Adrian

Re: Delete page breaks
G'day, Amontillado et al Have you tried using the Formatting Examiner? Select one Section Break, then click on the cogwheel in the Formatting Examiner Palette and choose "Select All". If you want to replace them with something, choose "Find All in New Window" instead of "Sel...

Re: Equation numbering methods.
G'day, Martin et al Thanks for that, Martin. The subtlety of accounting for the text height is a nice little touch. Strictly speaking, of course, the macro only aligns a list item number , not an entire list item, with an image. Aligning all tab-separated text elements in a list item would obviate t...

Re: Equation numbering methods.
G'day, all While Martin's approach works well enough, it is perhaps not ideal for those unaccustomed to working with right-to-left languages, particularly when it comes to placement of the insertion point for new paragraphs. So I think my earlier suggestion of allowing a choice between leading and t...

Re: Equation numbering methods.
G'day, johseb et al If you select an image, its dimensions are shown in the Shape Metrics Palette. Choose the Units to be Points, so you see the Height of the image in points. Now select the list item number and raise the baseline (via the Format menu) by half the number of points in the image's hei...

Re: Equation numbering methods.
G'day, Martin et al
Perhaps an option in the Lists Palette to choose between leading and trailing list item numbers (with following and preceding tabs respectively) could be of use in this and other contexts.

Adrian

Re: Mysterious Control Character
G'day, Philip et al Yes, you're quite right, Philip. With that hint about the font size, I now see that it was set at 256 pt in Ulrich's document. As the font size is reduced, progressively more of the code string appears. At 256 pt, anything beyond the "\x" extended beyond the right margi...

Re: Mysterious Control Character
G'day, Philip et al
When I do that, the character is replaced by "\x".
However, once the aptly named "mysterious" character is selected, its Unicode code is revealed in the Formatting Examiner Palette, which is easier than using the Character Viewer.

Adrian

Re: Mysterious Control Character
G'day, Ulrich et al Yeah, it's all a bit crazy. The Character Viewer is the tool you want, but (inexplicably) pasting into its search field does not give the correct character code, at least in this instance. However, if the character is selected in the Nisus document, it will automatically appear a...

Re: Mysterious Control Character
G’day, Ulrich, Philip et al Strange characters like this often seem to arise when you copy something (generally a complete entity such as a telephone number) from an email message or a Webpage and then paste it into a text document. As Philip says, it's usually safe to delete them. Deleting all occu...

Re: New MacBookPro, error messages
G’day, jrochest et al Not sure about the other stuff, but a bit of “education” of your new computer may fix the document opening problem. Select a .rtf file (or whatever format you usually save NWP files in) in the Finder, then File > Get Info (Cmd-I). In the window that opens, set the “Open with” a...
