Re: viewing footnotes/endnotes

It's true. As for the reason behind it: I don't know.

Re: Loading .doc files

Was Rosetta built into 10.5 and below but not Snow Leopard? Indeed. It was installed by default in Leopard, as Leopard came out in a time where Intel Macs were still relatively new, and not all the programmers had rewritten their applications as universal binaries yet. Some people consider Apple's ...

Re: Nisus vs Pages

Personally, I would not use Pages for this type of work. Pages handles graphics very well, but it does not allow you to add captions, for instance, and this is usually a required feature for longer academic documents. While Nisus Writer Pro is incredibly flexible in that regard and allows you to add...

Re: Nisus vs Pages

Hi Wojti, both applications have an impressive feature set, so I shall try to keep my answer as short as possible. Basically, the major difference for me is that Nisus Writer (Express and Pro) is a word processor, which means that its strength lies in the abundance of features that can be used to pr...

I remember reading somewhere (perhaps even on this forum) that Pages actually uses the same text engine as Safari, i.e. the one provided by WebKit.

Re: selection history (jump to prior editing locations)???

Hi,

when customising the toolbar (right-click the toolbar, then choose Customize Toolbar), you can add two large blue arrows (Back & Forward) to it. These arrows are what you are looking for.

Re: [OT] Page layout & first line indent

Dear all, thanks for your input; it has been most helpful. The way I understand your various comments, the situation is as follows: if the paragraph that follows a picture or an indented quote introduces a new idea (i.e. is a new paragraph), it should have the first line indent. However, if the para...

Re: Any schedule for .docx import support ?

Hi Phil,

Nisus Writer Pro already has the ability to open .docx files (in Mac OS X 10.5). Also, the Open XML Converter has been out of beta for quite some time now; the latest version (1.0.3) was released about two weeks ago.

[OT] Page layout & first line indent

Dear all, my question is slightly off-topic (for which I apologise), but I know that many talented and experienced users frequent this forum, and so I thought it might be a good place to obtain an answer. I am about to start my thesis (in Nisus Writer Pro, of course), and I have a question concernin...

Re: Nisus to PDF hyperlinks are lost

Hyperlinks in PDFs created by NWP rtf files are never lost for me when the PDFs are viewed in Adobe Acrobat. When the same PDFs are viewed in Preview and some other PDF viewers, the links don't work. Hi Hamid, that's because Adobe have built a hyperlink detection mechanism into Adobe Reader. This m...

Re: Nisus to PDF hyperlinks are lost

Not many applications can generate PDFs with hyperlinks using the PDF engine built into Mac OS X. Some exceptions I can think of right now are Pages and OmniGraffle. It would definitely be a nice feature to have in Nisus Writer Pro, so could you put this in the Feature Request database, please? Than...

Re: NOT numbering blank lines?

Which leads me to a feature request: I would love to be able to have "suppress line numbering" as part of a style definition. This option exists in Microsoft Word, and it is particularly useful. If I want to prepare a handout, line numbering usually starts with the first line of the body t...

Re: NOT numbering blank lines?

Hi Nick, the solution to your problem is to stop using multiple returns to create blank space. If you want to create a blank space after a paragraph, set a "Space after" in the Paragraph palette. Furthermore, you can make this "Space after" setting part of the style definition. I...

Re: New User to Nisus writer express

Hi Ann, and welcome to Nisus.

The good news is that both Express and Pro use standard RTF as their default file format; you don't need to convert files to go from one version to another, or even from Nisus Writer to other word processors such as Microsoft Word.

Re: Desired NWP 1.3 features

As far as looks are concerned, I would really like to see the following two changes at some point: * gradient colours for the page backdrop * a prettier application icon The icon has been annoying me ever since Nisus Writer Express. Granted, it has certainly improved with age (the shiny aqua look ha...
