Yeah, I've found something similar. I have a style called Title that centers the text, makes it 18 points, and bold face ... except that the bold face doesn't work. I have to manually select the text and com-B it in order to get it bold. I have to say, I'm surprised, at this point in NWE's life cycl...

Adriano,

Are you saying that when you installed 2.1 after trashing 2.0.1, it asked you for a reg code?

As a recent American president once said, I feel your pain. Version 2.0.X is unusable for me with its hideous bugs and glacial scrolling. But I'm optimistic that 2.1 -- due out any minute now -- will fix the problems. If not...

Regarding the lost formatting: this is a known issue that Nisus calls a "feature." I call it a bad idea to have the application of paragraph styles nuke existing character formatting. I had to manually go back through 250 pages of a novel and reapply character formatting. I can think of be...

Jon,

I can't speak to the footnote problem, but the insertion of blank pages is a known bug in NWE 2.0 and 2.01.

joao, I've got a lot more RAM than the original poster, and I'm also having speed problems. The scrolling through my 70-page book chapter is just glacial; I can't even imagine what a 220,000-word book would be like. I also think the scrolling is directly related to the other bugs I'm experiencing. F...

Got you. Thanks. That would certainly help when creating a new document, but I suspect it wouldn't have helped with my original problem with losing character styles after applying paragraph styles to an existing document created in NWE 1.1.2. But I'll use your solution for new documents.

JBL,

What I'm trying to make clear, and apparently haven't, is that I don't understand your solution. Could you please provide some details.

JBL, I'm embarrassed to ask this, but can you provide some details on how to go about following your suggestion. I created a 70-page book chapter using NWE 1.1.2. When 2.0 came out, I opened the chapter, created paragraph styles, then applied them to each paragraph -- only to discover (afterwards) t...

I think I may have been the first to report the problem. One temporary fix is to open the documents in NWE 1.1.2, and the hanging indents mysteriously go away.

No, I can't select the marker, which probably means it's an end-of-file marker and not an end-of-paragraph marker. They simply chose to give them the same appearance. In any case, an e-o-f marker would be very useful, as would a forced-page-break marker that doesn't count on me to begin typing in or...

I'm confused. I'm not sure if you're saying that an end-of-paragraph marker can't exist until I type one, or that NWE can't do it. After I read your post, I fired up Mariner Write, created a New document, then turned on invisibles. The only thing on the page was an end-of-paragraph (or end-of-file) ...

This may not be quite the answer you're looking for, but I use Spell Catcher which provides a line count, plus a far better spell checker than the one in NWE.

I did a little experimenting today and found that you don't even have to scroll the dots off the screen to get rid of them. Clicking anywhere in the document seems to be just as effective. They disappear instantly.

Oddly, I only have it in NWE -- not in TextEdit or Mariner Write.
