Re: Tutor/help

I believe that I've created some Styles, but then when I go to apply that Style to some text I don't see that happening. Isn't that how it is supposed to work? I create Styles with different characteristics. Then, I apply that to other sections of text? For some reason, that's not working. Any idea...

Re: repeating characters vs. display of character accents

The feature you described (holding down a key to show available accented versions of that character) is actually provided by macOS. It was introduced a few major system versions ago, apparently for macOS Catalina , so is it possible that you are working on a Mac with an older version of macOS? Other...

Re: Keyboard shortcuts not visible on Macro Menu

Updating the display of keyboard shortcuts on Nisus Writer's menus occurs in the background, after the app has idle time to update the menus "lazily". This is a low priority task and may not occur for some time after you launch the app. The exact timing depends on a variety of factors, i.e...

Re: multi-file search

Side-stepping the philosophical discussions, here is my attempt at a macro for solving this problem. It will search through all sub-folders for relevant files and check them against the find dialog. It will then let you how many it found, and ask whether you want to open them and show the results. ...

Re: Mailsuite Integration?

Thanks, that's good to know. Probably it uses OpenMeta for tagging, since that seems to be a popular standard.

Re: multi-file search

In this case, a much better approach is therefore to use the Document Manager . Add a Folder Group and choose 'Document Content' or 'Advanced Search'. This is how you can fast search hundreds, perhaps thousands of Nisus files without opening them! And the search is lightning fast. This is a nice ti...

Re: multi-file search

I'm glad you found out how to natively search all open documents in Nisus Writer. For anyone else wondering how to do it: in the Find panel set the "Where" popup to "All Open Files". I understand the desire to search multiple files in a folder without opening them. Unfortunately ...

Re: Mailsuite Integration?

Do you know what formats Mailsuite uses to store emails and tags? Hopefully both are a standard technology like mbox and OpenMeta.

Re: what is the real extension of old Nisus Writer 6.5 ?

Old "classic" Nisus Writer 6.5 files from the days circa Mac OS 9 have no official file extension. There actually was no such concept on the Mac at the time. The Mac used file creator/type codes like NISX that were hidden from the user. The concept of file extensions (which intertwine the ...

Re: Help with Macro sentence spacing

Which brings up the question how one might write such a macro that avoided doing that. My first reaction to this problem was that one could use Find to find footnote markers. But this doesn't seem to be possible. If you convert a footnote marker to a its Unicode points, it just gives you the Unicod...

Re: Help with Macro sentence spacing

Hi Julie! The good news is that this shouldn't be too hard. I'm attaching a macro that takes a stab at doing what you want. It should eliminate all space characters in front of footnote references in the main body text, no matter how many spaces occur. The macro uses the term "footnotes" b...

Re: Preferences - Doc Manager Visible columns

I'm sorry you're having trouble with the Document Manager. The column settings you described are stored in a file called "Document Manager Window Settings". Nisus Writer keeps the file in the standard macOS Application Support folder. Under sandboxing it has a rather ugly path: ~/Library/C...

Re: Typinator expands slowly?

Have you contacted Typinator about this? They are the ones who are most likely to be able to provide an explanation for this, and hopefully suggest a solution. We could try to investigate this from the Nisus Writer side of things. You might capture an Activity Monitor sample during a slow expansion....

Nisus Writer Pro version 3.3 is indeed the latest version available. It requires a version 3 license key.
