Every time I work on an existing document it saves as a copy?

I don't quite know how to explain this: every time I open a document that I've already saved and named, the program opens it as normal --but the moment I work on it, it becomes an 'untitled' file, a copy of the original document. The name in bar at the top becomes Untitled (Original document).

I wind up losing the newly entered text, or winding up with an unending sequence of "original document copy" "Original document copy 2".

This is true even if I'm very careful to open the document from Finder; it opens the original, but any change I make produced a copy.

WHY?? And how do I stop this? I'm losing work!

It sounds to me as if you’ve got "Open as New Copy" turned on somehow. I’m on my iPad at the moment, so can’t check, but will do so in due course. Someone else might come along first with a more definitive answer, or if you keep your eyes peeled, you may spot it yourself.

G’day, jrochest, Mark et al

I’ve tried a few things (including “Open as New File”, stationery pad, and reassigning the Cmd-S shortcut to “Save Copy As…”) but can’t replicate this behavior.

Have you tried quitting and relaunching Nisus Writer?

Cheers,
Adrian

If you're still having this problem please let us know. It sounds very strange and may indicate a problem with system (macOS) sandboxing or permissions. Rebooting your whole Mac might be a good first step in trying to clear the issue.
