Is there any way to modify the default behaviour of footnote marks, so that they *don't* induce something close to double spacing in a document? In a document set in Times New Roman the effect is obvious, but in the same document, using Aldus nova, the additional spacing is extreme, and gives the appearance of typewriter output. The document is set in 11/13pt, and the footnote marker is the default 9pt. Reducing it to 8pt didn't seem to make any difference.
Thanks for any suggestions,

footnote mark disrupts paragraph spacing
The problem seems to be with some OpenType fonts ..
The leading problems with footnote markers was just one of many spacing issues with Aldus nova/Palatino nova. Descenders got chopped off in footnotes as well. Substituting the older Palatino Linotype seems to work fine though, as does any of the 'standard' word processor fonts ...
