Widow/Orphan and Keep with Next...

What is the delay on these features? They seem so simple (and so obviously needed), yet in 2.7 we still do not have them. I noticed that if you save an RTF in Word with Widow/Orphan and Keep with Next, and then reopen that document in Word, it "remembers" it, so the RTF can save this information. Nisus just has to be able to "read" it and "write" it as well.

As it stands, there is nothing you can do if you have a one-sentence orphan on the bottom of a page or a one sentence widow at the top. Also, if you have a header that starts at the bottom of a page, there is no way to tell the program that it always belongs with the next paragraph. Manually page-breaking here is less than desirable (to say the least), because it leads to strange breaks when you edit text before it. Is there a workaround that I'm not seeing?

I agree with you that these are very important things to have in the word processor and like you I would very much like to see them.

However neither you nor I know the issues involved in implementing them or why they haven't arrived yet.

I too have a great number of things I'd like to see in NWE and I think to myself, well surely it can't be too difficult to do "x" or it can't be too difficult to do "y". However I'm not a programmer and I don't know what is involved, so I don't know why the program develops in a certain way.

Generally speaking I think progress has been very good on Nisus Writer Express.

I'm pretty convinced that it's just plain stubbornness.

Oh, come on. You know it's true. Every time I send in a bug report, I know that Martin and Dave get it and fall on the floor laughing. And then they have a deadly serious conversation about how they only went up to Nisus Writer Express 2.7 against their will. Everyone knew that Nisus Writer Express 1.6 was perfect, man! And then they wax nostalgic and start talking about the good old days of 1.6 and how, back then, the streets were paved with gold and it never rained except where it was needed and kittens never grew up.

I do miss the kittens...

I concur re the desirability of these features.

Also, when a soft page break happens to immediately precede a blank line, NWE should be smart enough to suppress the blank line rather than printing the blank line at the top of the second page.

I kept one of the kittens preserved in formaldehyde, if you'd like it.

Oh, wait, just checked. It's... not the same. Guess I'll be using NWE 2.7.
