Question about Edit--->Complete Feature

I used to use Textmate as my word processor and it has allowed you to strike the escape key and get suggestions to complete the word. However, Textmate had the capacity to scan the document you were working on and use it to suggest words.

For example, suppose I have typed the name Dopplestern in the document. When I type "Do" then escape, it will know to offer Dopplestern as the first suggestion.

This was a really nifty feature. Is there anyway to train Nisus to behave similarly?

In NWP Preferences=>General under Document Options, check 'Suggest completions as you type'.

In that case you can use Command-. (period) which also triggers completion.

It's true that this option was removed from NWP's preferences. It had caused much user confusion and nobody ever wrote that they enjoyed this feature. In fact, the feedback was always that this feature was intrusive and disrupted writing, hence its removal.

Apparently this dislike was not totally universal, and you'd like to have the feature back. That's unlikely, at least, not unless the feature has an overhaul. But you can still trigger the completion list using the Escape key– or whatever keyboard shortcut you've set for the menu Edit > Complete. I'm sorry to not have better news.

I'm glad this post came up. I did not even know of this little feature of using the escape key to complete a partially typed word. Seems like it might be very helpful.

It appears that the completion list doesn't scan the document you are in to build the list? I have a name in my document, but the only suggestions this is bringing up seem to be standard, popular names. Is that the case?

That's correct: the autocompletion list is not context sensitive. It only draws from some standard word list, as furnished by the system.

We have an enhancement request open that we improve the list by including words from the document. I've included your vote for that feature, thanks.
