Changes for Version 2.1
The primary goal with version 2.1 is to make Nisus Writer Express faster. Some areas that
were targeted for a speed increase:
- Scrolling
- Find & Replace All
- Typing
- Opening Documents
Also included in 2.1 are a variety of minor enchancements and bug fixes:
- Font size can be changed via the system font panel.
- QuickFix's "correct typos" can be properly disabled via the preferences panel.
- No longer yellow highlights Japanese input.
- Fixed bug in reading line height multiples. Also, we now read in "exact" line spacing.
- When text is deleted, properly scrolled into view.
- Applying a paragraph style no longer removes character formatting.
- Hovering the mouse over a note reference will tooltip display the note's text.
- Save as plain text now includes nicely formatted tables and notes (all notes are emitted as document endnotes).
- Spelling panel integrated more closely with languages.
- QuickFix-ing from roman to non-roman text no longer leaves the new text invisible.
- Dictionary guesses for misspelled word no longer sorted alphabetically in language palette.
- Using the left/right arrow keys to navigate between table cells no longer results in some selection inconsistencies.
- Autocomplete now only triggers after you type the second character of a word. Makes the feature much less intrusive.
- Automatically checks for updates on startup (can be turned off via preferences pane).
- Pasted text is no longer corrected (smart quotes, typos, etc).
- Removed unwanted snapping in the indent marker editor.
- Inserting a footnote no longer leaves an extra blank page at the end.
- Eliminated cases that caused blank pages to appear.
- Fixed RTF file reading so it will never allow head indent or first line indent less than 0.
- Tooldrawer will no longer show duplicates of floating palettes, even when opening a new document window.
- All units update in the Margins palette now.
- Fixed support for document filtering services. This means that if you have TextLightning installed, dropping a PDF file on Nisus will convert and open it for editing.
- Files with images are now saved much smaller, since 2.0 and 2.0.1 output the same image twice. Files containing PDF or other vector images will still contain two copies, one for us, one bitmap copy.
- Fixed layout problem preventing typing at the top of a footnote from growing the footnote region.
- Inserting images larger than a page now downscales the image to completely fit.
- Printing when a document is zoomed no longer prints images incorrectly.
- Insert a page break in the middle of a document will now snap the view forward to the new page.
- Spellchecker now learns/forgets words with curly apostrophes in them (eg: Newword's)
- Now properly reads soft-line-breaks (non-paragraph breaking line breaks) in Microsoft documents.
- Fixed: could not read MS Word files produced by Apple's TextEdit.app
- Fixed bug preventing arrow-down to go to the next page in an obscure situation.
- Fixed some cases where opening a document containing endnotes could show those notes with negative reference indeces.
- Can now drag and drop a plain text file into an existing document.
