Re: Prevent table splitting?
Back in 2015 brsnyder requested a feature to prevent a table splitting unnecessarily over a page . The idea is that the text layout engine could look at a table, decide whether its vertical size is bigger than the remaining space on the current page, and if so insert a page break. That would not a b...

vanishing text, corrupt file
Anyone else having problems with vanishing text? Several pages in the middle of a long document vanished. I replaced them from a previous version and they vanished again. I wondered whether the file was too big, so I did Save As twice, then in one copy I deleted the text before the vanishing bit and...

Help needed with Show Find Results
I want to list all words in a specified character style. The manual gives search examples that open a window with a list of found terms, but I can't make that work for me. It's obviously something simple I haven't understood. My macro: $doc = Document.active $found = Hash.new Find All "(AnyWord...

Re: multi-file search
Thanks Martin and Þorvarður, very helpful answers. But recursive search is essential. For background: the book I'm writing is divided into a few (5) parts. In each part there are several chapters/essays. Each chapter has associated with it the usual detritus of out-takes, diagrams, references, remin...

multi-file search
Has anyone written a macro to search all files in a folder? The macro repository offers 'FindReplace in all open documents' and says: "This is a legacy macro. Nisus Writer can natively search all open documents. These macros apply the find and replace expressions that have been entered into the...

@phspaelti - Bingo. Thanks.
You can do wonders with Nisus macros but a few more examples in the docs might be useful

Editing table cell borders
I wish to change the borders of a cell in a table. The code I have tried is: Select Table 1 $thisTable = Table.selectedTable $aCell = $thisTable.cellAtRowAndColumn 1, 1 $aCell.setLineAttributesForEdges 'invisible', 'top' I have experimented with various combinations of capitals (Invisible/invisible)...

I would also like to be able to exclude ToC levels in a simple way. Surely can't be hard to implement?

Join macro: tables destroy 'Normal' style
I started this as a reply in the thread 'Merging files into one document' but here's a new thread because I now know more precisely what's happening. Suppose two or more files are concatenated using the Join macro, and at least one file contains a Nisus table. In the resulting joined file, all parag...

Re: Merging files into one document
I've hit this one too. After a lot of experimentation, it seems that a file containing a table destroys the formatting of the joined-up document. What happens is this. File A has default formatting, in my case, line spacing 1.1li and space after para set to 10pts; file B, with the same default forma...

unwanted space after section break
If I type 2 consecutive lines, separated only by a Return, and then insert a same-page section break between them, I get unwanted space between the lines. Two consecutive lines: Screenshot 2022-01-20 at 18.25.27.png After inserting a same-page section break: Screenshot 2022-01-20 at 18.25.48.png I d...

Re: measurement units for table cells
Thanks Adrian. I had just discovered that when I made a new table in a new document, the cell widths were metric. BUT I can't change the metric widths to inches. The background here is that I have imported a CSV table. It appears in Nisus as plain text, which is fine, and I use the command Table> Co...

measurement units for table cells
Although Nisus accepts metric units in most places, it doesn't seem possible to specify the dimensions of a table cell in metric using the dialog in the Tables tab of the Palette Dock, where width and height of cells can be set. Neither '3 cm' nor '30 mm' worked.
Presumably this is a small bug.

styles for tables
I see people have been asking for styles for tables at least since 2007 – i.e. styles like stylesheet styles, where changing the defined format will change all instances. Is there any chance that will happen in Nisus? If not, how about including in a predefined glossary a variety of useful built-in ...
