Slick Header Tricks
Esteemed fellow Nisoids, I've recent managed to convert a colleague of mine to NWE after watching him suffer through Word for several years. Of course, now the burden is on me to answer myriad questions regarding things that I don't personally do in my own writing, so I wanted to ask y'all for any t...

I have just started using 2.5 alpha 5 and can't get the spelling window to work. If I control-click on a high-lighted word and select "Learn spelling", nothing happens. Have tried going in to the spelling window through the Edit pulldown and same thing. I too have had this problem -- and for me it'...

"After I read your post, I tested to change the menu key and quit NWE and then relaunch it again, and I got the same result as you got, unfortunately." Thanks for your input, Peter. Sorry to hear that it's not just my problem, but then again perhaps one of our valliant Nisus software engineers will ...

Menu Keys Changes Don't Stick
Am I the only one out here who's noticed that menu keys changes don't stick? Each time I launch NWE 1.1 or 1.1.1, fire up the prefs and remove command-shift-C from "Show Colors" and assign it to "Center" - it works until I quit NWE. When I relaunch it, command-shift-C reverts back to "Show Colors". ...

I almost feel guilty for saying this
Y'know, it's true that not having footnotes makes NWE essentially unusable for writing articles or book chapters, and there are other features I miss (especially the graphics layer) -- BUT -- my experience hasn't been all negative. I've been using NWE for syllabi and various other course materials, ...

Odd Zoom Percentages
Ralph writes: "But why would I want to zoom to something like 144% in the first place, you might ask? That seems like a silly number to pick. Is would be, if I were actually choosing that number. I've ended up with numbers like that because of the difficulty in getting an even number like 150% using...

Fonts and Smart Quotes
While I haven't found a way to turn "smart quotes" on and off (since I really don't like them all that much), one easy way to use them is to simply use option-[ ( “ ) and option-shift-[ ( ” ). This works for most fonts I've tried. As far as the disappearing macrons are concerned, I'm a bit puzzled. ...

Features
Charles, Thanks much for the input ... it's always reassuring to know that Nisus is listening. While I respectfully disagree with the "solid foundation" gameplan (since it leaves many of us with our ****s in our hands for a full-featured OS X word processor), I must confess that I too am taken in by...

Carbonize 6.5
A year!!?? Yeesh! I don't know for sure whether the OpenDoc code would present a problem or not .... but they could have started on the problem when OS X was announced and now we'd all be wordsmithing with smiles on our faces. In the early days of OS X a few bugs would have been accepted ... and by ...

Re: Disappointed NO FOOTNOTES in beta 2
If you take a look at the list of changes in this beta you'd notice that they are all bug fixes, and contains no significant changes even in the functioning of features. This is as it should be. In other words, do not expect footnotes and the like with NWX 1.0. Perhaps with NWX 2.0.[/quote] Sadly, y...

Footnotes
I must confess that I too am becoming frustrated, and I REALLY want an OS X version of Nisus Writer. The only improvement I've noticed in Beta 2 is that it's less sluggish than Beta 1. It still doesn't remember half of my key command changes, it still insists that page numbers in a header must be le...

Responsiveness
I've noticed the same problem, and I've got 576MB in my 500 mhz iBook. I know damned well the machine is fast enough to keep up with my typing speed, but NWE is really sluggish.
