Re: Beware Catalina (Not)

Catalina is fine, don't be frightened of it. I've been running it on my 2017 13" MBP since 10.15.0 and am now on 10.15.2. Even .0 wasn't anything like as bad as many press stories claimed. A few minor hiccups every now and then but nothing that stopped me doing my work. As noted previously the ...

It's working fine on my MacBook Pro running High Sierra. Have you tried reinstalling it?

Re: Update for High Sierra?

Where has Apple said this? Here: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2017/09/macos-10-13-high-sierra-the-ars-technica-review/2/#h2 "Apple told us that third-party SSDs installed in older Macs wouldn’t be converted automatically, but I've found some posts from people running the betas who say their...

Re: Update for High Sierra?

So far so good with NWP 2.1.7 under High Sierra. Haven't run into any issues thus far, but I've done only pretty simple editing and stuff. My mid-2010 MBP with Crucial SSD (and FileVault 2 encryption) upgraded to 10.13 with only a minor issue (final reboot didn't complete, just hung there unresponsi...

Re: Get Info- Open With... Damages File?

As luck would have it I recently had to do a universal switch of default apps like this (macOS 10.12.4) and I've had no issues with opening the files afterwards. They all seem to open just fine in the newly anointed app for that filetype. Only odd thing I noticed was that 5-10% of the files icons di...

NWP 2.1.3 Crashes on Launch - With Solution

Yesterday I found NWP suddenly started crashing on launch on my iMac (but not my MacBook Pro where it continued to work fine). After trying all the usual things - restarting iMac, deleting NWP plist files, reinstalling NWP, etc. I had a look at the stack trace it was producing (and sending to Apple)...

Re: Best site(s) for more-or-less objective info on Macs?

Many thanks for all those answers. I guess I'm going to have to do quite a bit of work to get back up to speed with using my Mac. The "Take Control" books indeed sound promising. I'm far from being a Luddite, but the continual changes, such as the sudden appearance of "Photos" t...

Re: Italics in Word Export

How do you do the export from NWP to Word format .doc files? Are you using the File>Save As... File Format: [Microsoft Word Format] command in NWP? This does not create an actual Microsoft Word binary format file as you would expect, it creates an RTF format file with a .doc file extension. An RTF f...

Re: Best site(s) for more-or-less objective info on Macs?

Hi, Is there a site, or sites, where one can get reasonably reliable info and advice on Macs? Most sites are so advertising-laden that their objectivity cannot be assumed. Ans: There are heaps of good Mac sites, e.g.: http://tidbits.com/ (their Take Control series of ebooks are very good too) http:...

Re: Too frequent autosave

See http://nisus.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=6064 for info on autosave and NWP. As far as I know there is nothing you can tweak in OS X to alter the autosave frequency.

Re: Saving documents

I upgraded to Mavericks a few months ago, probably the worst decision of my life (although there was an incident in 1982 which comes close, but I won't go into it here). Anyway, it took me about a week full time to downgrade back to 10.7.5 (I'd done a new full back up wth Mavericks and all my 10.7....

Re: Saving documents

dumiya, what version of OS X is this? What version of NWP (2.1 or 2.1.1b?)

Do you have Nisus Writer Pro>Preferences>Saving>"Keep all new documents without asking me" checked? If so, uncheck it.

Re: Saving documents

I spoke too soon in any case, yesterday I ended up with three copies of a file on the desktop and when I thought I'd saved and then closed it, two of them disappeared. At least I still had one... I'm using 10.7.5. Should I downgrade NWP? No, you should upgrade OS X. There were several issues with t...

Re: Saving documents

Back again. I still find it curious that a saved file should disappear. I just did it again. I opened a file - actually a .dot file and so I had an untitled document. I made changes (it's a letterhead, and I've moved), saved the file on the desktop as "new letterhead" (and it appeared on ...

Re: Autosave

Why would OS X's autosave cause you to run out of disk space? It's just saving the document for you, overwriting what was there before. It uses no more disk space than if you saved it yourself periodically (or when Nisus used to auto-save it every "n" minutes). I think what you are referri...
