Re: what is the real extension of old Nisus Writer 6.5 ?

Old "classic" Nisus Writer 6.5 files from the days circa Mac OS 9 have no official file extension. There actually was no such concept on the Mac at the time. The Mac used file creator/type codes like NISX that were hidden from the user. The concept of file extensions (which intertwine the ...

Re: Help with Macro sentence spacing

Which brings up the question how one might write such a macro that avoided doing that. My first reaction to this problem was that one could use Find to find footnote markers. But this doesn't seem to be possible. If you convert a footnote marker to a its Unicode points, it just gives you the Unicod...

Re: Help with Macro sentence spacing

Hi Julie! The good news is that this shouldn't be too hard. I'm attaching a macro that takes a stab at doing what you want. It should eliminate all space characters in front of footnote references in the main body text, no matter how many spaces occur. The macro uses the term "footnotes" b...

Re: Preferences - Doc Manager Visible columns

I'm sorry you're having trouble with the Document Manager. The column settings you described are stored in a file called "Document Manager Window Settings". Nisus Writer keeps the file in the standard macOS Application Support folder. Under sandboxing it has a rather ugly path: ~/Library/C...

Re: Typinator expands slowly?

Have you contacted Typinator about this? They are the ones who are most likely to be able to provide an explanation for this, and hopefully suggest a solution. We could try to investigate this from the Nisus Writer side of things. You might capture an Activity Monitor sample during a slow expansion....

Nisus Writer Pro version 3.3 is indeed the latest version available. It requires a version 3 license key.
I had sent an email asking for Academic discount (Seminary Professor), but have not heard anything

Re: Word Wrap and Plain-Text Paste

Non-breaking spaces can be a nuisance. I can't imagine the intentions behind all the non-breaking spaces in the sample text that was posted. It's out of control! But non-breaking spaces are also quite useful if deployed intelligently. Especially as they are actual character codes instead of formatti...

Re: Automatic Figure Titles

Philip's advice is spot on. You definitely want to use a list style to automatically number your figures, and then insert cross-references to those list items to ensure the referential number is always accurate. This also creates nice clickable links in exported PDFs. The one other tip I'll add is t...

Re: Align tables

Adrian is correct: tables are not shapes and cannot be arbitrarily moved and positioned. Tables behave like paragraphs; they are placed inline in the normal text flow. Aside from Adrian's suggestion of using a 2-column document section, here are a few other ideas: 1. If your table structures are com...

Re: NWP Bookends link does not work

I'm sorry that you're having trouble. I'm not aware of any current Bookends incompatibility. Once your document is sent to Bookends for processing/scanning, it's in the hands of Bookends to complete the process and return the formatted document to Nisus Writer. So please follow up with Sonny Softwar...

Re: Select a list as a group.

Hi Lou, and welcome back! I'm not sure I entirely understand what you want, but here's a macro that takes a stab at it. You should place your insertion point (aka: caret) anywhere in a list and run the macro. It will insert newlines before and after the contiguous paragraphs in the same list style. ...

Re: Smart quote problem in Comments, but not in main NWP window

The most likely culprit is the effective language of your text. Each language can have different smart quote settings, as configured in the Nisus Writer QuickFix preference pane. Please check what language is showing for your comments. I would guess that your document's "Comment" paragraph...

Re: Scrolling bug?

Thanks for the additional explanation! I think to investigate this further we'll need you to use a special debug version of Nisus Writer. We can try to capture and log the source of the unwanted auto-scrolling. If you're willing to help continue the investigation, please send me an email directly at...
