Re: Your settings could not be loaded / saved
Thanks for the sympathy and input. Regarding keeping settings in iCloud, I believe it stores a copy on the Mac's local storage and syncs that to iCloud. So it isn't trying to get the settings from the cloud each time. They are stored locally but synced to iCloud when they change. This way I can shar...

Re: Your settings could not be loaded / saved
I think it's fixed, but it wasn't so straightforward. I was not able to duplicate my Nisus Writer Settings folder to create a backup. I was not able to option-drag it elsewhere to create a copy that way. I was able to rename it (Nisus Writer Settings backup). I then launched Nisus Writer Pro. It did...

Re: Your settings could not be loaded / saved
Thank you for your quick responses and concern for even non-Nisus issues. I'll struggle on and see where I get. Finder Issues. Finder issues improved a day or so later. I'm still baffled about what causes them. They have persisted across new Macs, new hard disks, new OSes, and several wipes and manu...

Re: Your settings could not be loaded / saved
Thanks, Martin. Weirdly, only days after purchase, the new computer is exhibiting the same Finder problems that afflicted my last several Macs. You solution makes sense, and I followed the steps you outlined. It did not fix the issue. I repeated the procedure with no success. I then tried clicking i...

Your settings could not be loaded / saved
I got a new Mac and used Migration Assistant to set it up. However, whenever I launch Nisus Writer Pro (3.2.2 on macOS 12.5.1), I get the following error message or something very similar. Your settings could not be loaded. Your settings could not be saved. The following settings are affected: prefe...

Odd interaction with Knox
I'm experiencing a peculiar interaction between Knox and Nisus Writer Pro. (Knox is a secure desk image utility from Agile Web Solutions.) I keep a number of confidential documents in several Knox vaults. Sometimes when I launch Nisus Writer Pro, a vault will open without any intervention on my faul...

I don't know an easy way. A hard way, and one I wouldn't recommend, is to create a table and try to match the dimensions of the labels on the sheet as closely as possible. What I do when I need to generate labels is to use either NeoOffice (free) or FileMaker (not free). (Recently I haven't been abl...

Here's a screenshot of a Find-Replace dialog that worked for me. http://www.crchapin.com/etc/Nisus/NWE_Find.png This is PowerFind, not PowerFind Pro. To get the parentheses, click the gear button, choose Match and then Found. To get Found2, click the gear button, choose Match, then Found2. I hope th...

Sorry to hear that you're having these kinds of problems, foobar. I'm sure others can do a better job of suggesting ways to prevent crashes (delete preferences, repair permissions or whatever). I'll just tell you my experience. I had to deal with crashes with the early versions of Nisus Writer Expre...

For the time being, could Anne do what she wants with Folder Actions? Whenever anything is saved to the Nisus Documents folder (or another folder chosen for this purpose), I believe a folder action could copy it to the USB device. However, for this to work, I suspect that the USB device would have t...

I'd be glad to share. The macros are extremely simple. First, create a Comment character style. Mine uses a brown font color and a yellow highlight, but you can set yours up however you like. You can keep it in your Nisus New File or a special-purpose template. If you are working on a document creat...

Another option--and this is what my wife/partner and I do when working together on translations--is to use a Comment character style. We each have our own color-coded style. This puts the comments in line with the text, which could be an advantage or a disadvantage in your case. We also have a simpl...

But wouldn't that be an obvious and more elegant solution?martin wrote:You could also load a macro that inserts a non-breaking hyphen and then assign it a keyboard shortcut.
