Re: Convert return separated text to table

The macro worked but I will need to study this to see WHY it worked! :D The crucial line of the macro is the one which selects N lines of text, excluding the last return. For example if you want 9 columns you have 9 lines of text with 8 returns. So the find expression will need to select 1 line fol...

Re: Citation

Hi again, Nisus macros aren't really ideal for interactive use of the kind you are aiming for. For example there is really no need to work 'bit by bit', and in fact it's often just inconvenient, though you can write the macro that way if you prefer. Here is a macro that will do what you want. It wor...

Re: Citation

Hello Publius. I think we might need a bit more information to understand what you are trying to accomplish. The description that you are giving is of citations in your document that you are trying to find? When you find them, what do you want the macro to do with them? Or maybe I am completely misu...

Re: Convert return separated text to table

And now to the general problem. I take it your approach is going to be: Find and Mark the row ending returns Replace all other returns with tabs Select everything and convert to table That's a good approach, especially if you have a good way of recognizing the line ending returns. But a more general...

Re: Convert return separated text to table

Let's start with your most immediate question: How to search for a <return> between a number and a capital letter. As you found out, if you write a find expression [number]<return[Capital letter], the replace expression will wipe out the number and the capital letter. The trick is to use the "Preced...

Re: Follow-Up Question to My Post "Text Variables": How Do I Attach a Character Style to a Custom Property?

Here’s a quick-and-dirty example… Hello Adrian, that's a good solution. Just wanted to give two small pointers: 1. If you want to add some text to a document and immediately select it, why not use the "Insert Text" command (instead of "Type")? 2. If you want to search for a text string in a documen...

Show Changes Icons in Margin toggles it in an open document.
How can I change the default to unchecked/don't show?
Did you look in the Track Change Options? There is an option to Show change icons in margin alongside document text. If you change that setting in your Nisus New File?

Martin’s right. I seem to have misread the problem and tried to solve the wrong thing.

Re: Changing the numbering scheme for footnotes

Hello vw, I don't see any way to change the list style directly with a macro, but what you could do is just replace it with a list style with the same name and your desired formatting. So this problem will look a bit like the one you were asking about before. Here's one way to do that. $styledBit = ...

Re: Does Nisus now support columnar text (CJK)?

Hello Martin, thank you for the reply. I guess I was misled by your first example with the western text. I wrote without testing this myself first, so I had no idea that this was possible. The vertical text works for Japanese text, exactly as it should, with columns wrapping right to left, etc.. So ...

Re: Does Nisus now support columnar text (CJK)?

With all due respect Martin: The rotated text in tables is a nice new feature, but it is most definitely not columnar CJK text. It is in fact pretty much the opposite. To get columnar CJK text one would need to rotate the individual characters by 90º counter-clockwise . Actually even that would not ...

Re: NWP3 & Word files

Just to elaborate a bit. Automatic numbering in a Word file should be "transformed" into a List style in Nisus. The main reason why these numbers end up in the form "1. 1. 1. …" is either (a) the List style is not set to continue numbering through the document, i.e, "Continue numbering across docume...

Re: Do not comprehend "Ref" objects

After writing the above, I guess I'm going to try to answer my own question. Presumably NWP text objects are immutables, and an array is (something like) a linked list. So every change to a text object really does create a brand new object and the linked list is just updated to have its (in this cas...
