Hi, JonLink! That was then, this is now. NW is crashing InDesign with doc files it creates from scratch also. At first it was only a few rtf files, then all rtf's I created, then the doc files I created. I'm not a techie, but I know some users have this problem, some don't. My concern is that 1. it ...

Here's the latest: I created 4 one-line document and saved them in the following formats:

rtf, doc, html, text.

The Html and text documents placed OK in InDesign. The RTF and Doc files crashed InDesign.

There was no special formatting in any of the files.

Yes, I created a Word RTF file and it place fine.

One strange thing: When I tried to place a short NW Express RTF file into another program, Canvas, I got a document full of garble!

Maybe it's time to dump NW Express and reinstall?

I tried to find the preferences for Nisus Writer: mycomputer/library/preferences/nisus.

There is no Nisus file there. Where would it be?

Mac OSX 10.4 (Tiger)

Thanks.

Update: I still get InDesign crashes with new documents I create in NW, either as .rtf or .doc. I dumped the preference files in both programs after the crashing, but that didn't change things. :(

There doesn't seem to be an issue if I convert the Word documents to Nisus .doc. So for now that's what I'll do. Someone has suggested that it may be the Word file with some "styles" applied that doesn't convert to RTF easily. I'll pay more attention to the kinds of documents that are caus...

Unfortunately, those of us who write or produce publications can't wait too long for a "fix" of the problem. A year in cyberland is an eternity...and a year's wages.

I need a word processor that is dependable, usable, placeable, and can be read by InDesign, my workhorse software.

Here's the strange part: if I open an MS Word document and then save it in NW as a .doc rather than .rtf, it works fine in InDesign!

So there must be some issue with the Nisus RTF works or how InDesign handles RTF files. Hmmmm.

So when NW show RTF (Preferred), we might ask, "Preferred by whom?

This is very discouraging news since InDesign is quickly becoming (if it already isn't) the layout program of choice for professionals. When I get Word documents, I normally convert them to NW and reformat them the way I want. Then I place them in the publications I produce. My current project is a ...

No, the document wasn't created in NW X 2.5. It was an MS Word document that I opened in NW and then saved it as an NW RTF file.

InDesign CS2 Place Problems

I'm still having a problem placing documents created in Nisus Ex. 2.5 into InDesign. When I place the document, it crashes InDesign!

This has been happening off and on for a few months now. Word versions of the same document place fine.

What's up?

I had the same problem with a Word document, so I repaired permissions on my iMac. That seems to have helped.

Weirdness with NWX and Indesign

I created an RTF file today, and when I tried to place it in InDesign CS2, it caused Indy to crash. I've placed other NWX files before, but never have seen this happen. Is it InDesign or NWExpress?
