Re: basic knowledge of Nisus templates

G’day, Yohanan et al Things have indeed gone astray with your file locations. I would suggest you reconstruct the Document Manager from scratch. It seems that all the folders in your screenshot are contained in a folder you have named Nisus Project. I suggest you first save a copy of this folder in ...

Re: basic knowledge of Nisus templates

G’day, Yohanan et al Perhaps a brief overview of options might be of some help here. Philip has described one way of setting up the Nisus New File template. This is the file that opens whenever you use File > New (or Cmd-N). The Preferences approach allows you to customize the Nisus New File in cert...

Re: Nisus auto save on close with no warning

G’day, Michael et al

In case there’s any confusion: You’re looking at Nisus Writer Preferences, Michael, whereas Hamid is talking about the main System Preferences under the Apple logo at the top left of your screen.

Cheers,
Adrian

Re: Nisus aks for server while starting

G'day, Peter et al Perhaps you did not close all the Nisus documents before you moved them to the new server, so NWP is still trying to find and open them at launch. Nisus Writer Pro > Preferences > General >Application Note the checkbox for "On application launch, restore previously open documents....

Re: Hiding/remove headers and footers

G’day, vwnisus et al A couple of other possible solutions occur to me. One is to make the header and footer text the same color as the background. Another is to overlay the header and the footer with opaque rectangular shapes of the same color as the background and then toggle the “Draw behind text”...

Re: Crash and no sign of document in manager

G’day, WF et al Very sorry to hear you’ve lost work — never a nice experience. I’m afraid I can’t help you retrieve the lost document, unless Time Machine has a version somewhere, but I might just offer a suggestion for the future. I never rely on auto-saving for anything: I always do manual saving ...

Re: How to transfer ALL NWP preferences and settings to new

G’day, Cris et al Martin’s instructions in that FAQ posting are mostly pretty explicit, so I’m not sure why they aren’t working for you. One thing that isn’t quite explicit, though, is whether they still apply in the situation where one of the operating systems involved pre-dates Mavericks. It may b...

Re: Changing Language

G’day, Ted et al While we’re still grappling with the technicalities… Notwithstanding the technical problem of language selection for individual documents — a problem which does demand a clear-cut solution — are you sure you really need to be so concerned with this sort of spelling variation in your...

Re: Changing Language

G’day, Philip et al That’s an interesting suggestion, Philip, but it doesn’t get around the peculiar behavior I’ve alluded to. If you select all the document text and change the language style (using the Language tab in the Statusbar), the language in the overall application Preferences is changed a...

Re: Changing Language

G’day, Ted et al I never use a spell-checker, but I mostly use English (Australia) settings everywhere to simplify life here in Australia. I changed the setting in the drop-down menu at the bottom of the NWP window to English (U.S.). Like you, I observed a reversion to my original language setting (...

Re: Image alt-tags

G’day, Mike et al I did a bit more research and found the following page that includes information about tagged PDF files and a list of PDF authoring tools that provide accessibility support:– <https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG20-TECHS/pdf_notes.html> Unfortunately, Nisus Writer is not amongst them. One su...

Re: Image alt-tags

G’day, Mike et al I think the information you’re seeing there comes from the Finder, so you’d need to alter the filename, image dimensions, etc, in the Finder before inserting the image into your Nisus Writer document. But these are not really ALT tags in the usually accepted sense. My experience wi...

Re: Last Character in a Line (Soft Hyphens)

G’day, Philip et al That’s really great, Philip! Thanks for that. I think I now understand the workings of the rangeOfLineAtIndex command better. Your second macro does the trick with 173 as the code for a soft hyphen. (I got this code from the Entities Palette of BBEdit.) There is, however, one tee...

Last Character in a Line (Soft Hyphens)

G’day, all My world seems to be revolving around hyphens at the moment. My current interest is the manual insertion of hyphens in words that are too long to fit at the end of one line but whose wrapping to the next line leaves too much white space in the (fully justified) previous line. I think that...
