Just 10 months and 1 week after your post, here we are. As far as the vi keystroke stuff goes, maybe you could use TextExtras to map keys to commands like you want them. I'm looking into that right now but don't quite know enough to decide.

Substitute for glossing?
As another beginning Chinese student I'd like to know more about what you mention. Seems like I remember glossing as a part of Classic, but didn't use it as I didn't need anything like it then. Now I might, if I understood what it was.

macro woes
Thanks for the info. I want to use your PERL macro capability a lot, and in lots of different ways. When I was testing, I was using your own macros provided with NEX. Reading the old topics didn't turn up much about using PERL to do scripting for macros. As an occasional programmer trained on mainframes, I've used PERL as MacPerl...

can't launch Express demo in 10.4.2
I used Classic for many years back in the States and just got the demo for Express to use on my mini. But it won't get going - runs through various dialogs and then quits. Maybe it'll show me the license agreement, the demo has expired box, or the 30-day demo one, but it quits before it gets going. ...
