Re: open Nisus RTF in Indesign

Thank you for trying that simple test, and for posting a video. It's strange that InDesign seems to recognize the RTF (in order to show you potential styles conflicts etc) but then fails to insert any text. I'd like to continue working on this problem with you, in the hopes that we can isolate the c...

Re: open Nisus RTF in Indesign

InDesign still supports RTF import, correct? So their suggestion for you to downgrade doesn't seem like a real solution, just a way to maybe workaround issues in newer versions of InDesign. It's a pity they aren't more helpful in pinpointing the problem. A quick question: what happens if you create ...

Re: A macro converting numbered texts to endnotes

Aha Philip beat me to it! 🐌 But I was writing up a macro before I saw his post so I'll post my macro as well. It also looks like Philip's macro has some errors. I tried it on Nobumi's sample text and it failed. That's probably because Philip's macro tries to be more efficient in exactly calculating ...

Re: open Nisus RTF in Indesign

I'm sorry you're having trouble importing RTF from Nisus Writer into InDesign. When you try to import the RTF is there an error message of any kind? Did the InDesign support staff give you any technical reason for the failure? We'd love to get this working properly for you, even if we need to change...

Re: To Markdown macro

What about the second macro (as posted by philip) doesn't work for you Ken? I just tried a quick test with a bit of formatting, headings, and links and the Markdown macro worked just fine.

Re: Changing default margins

If you open the Nisus New File template file for editing just save your changes and close the template document window. Any time you create a new document the template is loaded/duplicated from the existing template file on disk.

How do I reset Nisus Writer's sandbox container?

In some situations you may want to reset Nisus Writer's sandbox container. This is sometimes necessary to fix odd problems related to file permission errors. The system (macOS) will sometimes show an alert that claims you do not have permission to save a file you created or opened. The system alert ...

Re: Selecting all tables

It's true that those methods will produce slightly different kinds of selections. Using the Formatting Examiner in this way will select all tables in their enclosing context (eg: the main document text), while the macro will select all table cells directly. The first method won't allow you to manipu...

Re: Really really strange behavior editing PowerFind Pro string

I'm glad you've excised the bug, though it's a pity we couldn't track this issue down. Thanks all the same for your efforts!

If anyone does hit upon a way to reliably trigger this problem, please let us know so we can continue to investigate.

a macro to list all widows and orphans in a document

A user recently wrote to us privately, asking for a way to see a list of all widows and orphans in a document. Nisus Writer has built-in support for preventing widows and orphans, but this user preferred to manually edit their text to fix such lines. Just in case anyone else might find it useful, he...

Re: Really really strange behavior editing PowerFind Pro string

Thanks for posting instructions on how to reproduce the bug alanterra, but just like Philip I could not trigger the problem. It sounds like you can reliably trigger the bug any time. Is that true even if you quit and relaunch Nisus Writer? If so we might be able to work with you privately, using a d...

Re: Really really strange behavior editing PowerFind Pro string

Your video is certainly very weird! I'm sure editing like that is totally impossible. That said, I haven't been able to reproduce the issue. Pasting your find expression (regex) into the Find window and editing it behaves normally for me. Are you able to reproduce the problem from scratch? Also, is ...

Re: Really slow reacting to typing in 3.0.1

Thanks for your sample John, it was perfect. We replied to you privately already, but the problem ended up being an old custom toolbar item. The menu targeted by the toolbar item no longer exists, and Nisus Writer was incorrectly spending a lot of time continually trying to find it. We will fix this...

Re: Changing size of text in different places

Thanks to Adrian for the help. I'm glad you got it working Howard. In case this situation arises again, I want to link to our FAQ topic that explains a few ways you can search for formatting in Nisus Writer . You don't necessarily need to use Find & Replace expressions, though that's certainly a goo...

Re: Really slow reacting to typing in 3.0.1

I'm sorry the inexplicable slowdowns have returned. To diagnose this it would be helpful for us to see an Activity Monitor sample. Please see our FAQ on how to capture an activity sample . The FAQ goes into the details, but basically you'll want to trigger the unexpected slowdown — perhaps by furiou...
