Re: Select individual trop marks?

When you say "trop mark" do you mean Hebrew or Yiddish combining marks? I'm not clear on the exact difference between tropes, nikkud, points, vowels, cantillation marks, and other Hebrew combining characters, but whatever you call the mark you can select it in Nisus Writer to add coloring. Let's go ...

Re: Two Languages at the same time

Hello Michael: when you say "check for both languages" I assume that you mean spellchecking? If so, then yes, Nisus Writer can automatically switch between spelling dictionaries as you write in multiple languages. The key to understanding this feature is Nisus Writer's language system . To state it ...

Why does the Finder warn that my files are from an unidentified developer?

When you try to open a previously saved Nisus Writer file using the Finder (eg: by double clicking the file's icon), you might see a warning alert like this: unident2.png The warning claims that the file "cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer". This is false. Nisus Software i...

Can I customize keyboard shortcuts?

Apple allows you to change shortcuts for apps in the system preferences using basic tools. Nisus Writer goes further, and offers fully customizable shortcuts and multi-key shortcuts. You can change the shortcut for any menu command or submenu, including user-created elements like styles, macros, and...

Re: Indexing NOT to page numbers

I can magically generate the index with another command? If so, what would that be? Use the menu Tools > Index > Insert Index . I recommend that you give it a try to get a feel for how it works. Mark a few terms for inclusion in your index, and then insert a generated index. Then mark a few more te...

Re: Indexing NOT to page numbers

If you don't want the generated index to list page numbers, you'll need to index your text using custom text messages. The custom text you enter during indexing will be shown in the generated index instead of page numbers. Here's how to do that: 1. Select the text you want to index. 2. Use the menu ...

Re: converting Pages documents?

Nisus Writer Pro has only limited import for Pages documents. As others have mentioned, the Pages format is proprietary. Apple has also changed it several times. Only files using the file format of Pages version 4.x (from iWork '09) are supported by Nisus Writer Pro, and even then the quality of the...

Re: Wrong icon for Nisus files

However, the Templates (.dot) still carry the Microsoft Word icons. When I click on them they open with Word not Nisus. To change what app opens your .dot files you'll have to adjust your "Get Info" settings in the Finder, like you did with your other formats. Please see this FAQ on changing a file...

Re: How to create a solid line?

The best way to include a solid horizontal line in text is to use paragraph borders. The trick is to set the paragraph's border so only the bottom edge is visible. You can do that in Nisus Writer using the Paragraph Borders palette: bottom-edge2.png Add a Line by Setting the Paragraph's Bottom Edge:...

Re: Lost link with NWP settings

Good morning Edgar. I'm not sure what kind of shuffling Apple did with your keychain or iCloud, but you can probably correct the issue by reselecting the desired synchronized settings folder. Here's how: 1. Open your Nisus Writer preferences to the General pane. 2. Click the popup button after "sync...

Re: NW for iPad?

During the WWDC, Apple announced that it will be possible to use iOS applications in the macOS environment as on the iPhone and the iPad. The question is now, will it be possible to do opposite as well, i.e. be able to use a future version (an ARM friendly version of Nisus Writer Pro) also on the i...

Re: Custom Background Color Shortcut

What you want is possible, but you'll have to set the colors indirectly. There's no built-in feature for adding custom colors to the menu directly. Here are a few options: 1. Apple's standard color panel (as used in Nisus Writer) lets you add custom colors . Once you've summoned the color panel in b...

Re: Header Style Shortcuts

When you say "serial shortcut key function" I think you're referring to what we call multi-key shortcuts. You activate a multi-key shortcut in Nisus Writer by holding down the Command key the entire time as you press and release the other keys. For example, to trigger ⌘H3 (the default shortcut for H...
