Re: Nonstandard Page Numbering

Yeah. That greyed out "Restart At" box is probably confusing. That box becomes active if you have multiple sections, since once you have a second section you can re- start the numbering. But it would be nice if Nisus could have the label display "Start at" in the first section, instead of the greyed...

Re: Case Sensitivity?

Generally the rule is: Variable names, Menu Command names, as well as Object names along with their properties and commands are all case sensitive. Macro language keywords ('if', 'foreach', etc.) are not. I think the basic division is reasonable. The property and command names use a camelCase system...

Re: PDF Opens One Page Only

Hello Vance, if you want to insert single pages of a pdf into a Nisus document, you could use the following procedure. First extract the page images from the pdf into a folder. (I use a program like Graphic Converter for this). Then you can use a macro like this to insert them into the Nisus documen...

Re: List formatting

And a short addition. To make inserting a Heading style more convenient one can use a macro like the following to insert the Heading style. Just attach the macro to the preferred shortcut for the heading style. Type Newline # Optional convenience Paragraph Style:Heading 1 if Find '^.+\t', 'Eb' Chara...

Re: List formatting

One possibility is that of using a character style to remove formatting of this kind. While the following solution is a kludge it can be made to work. While a character style cannot directly be given a feature "Unbold" or "No Underline", the trick is to first define a "dummy" character style with al...

Re: Two Language Fonts in Styles?

Actually the keyboard is associated with the language attribute. You should go to Preferences > Language , then choose the language. Then you can set dictionaries, and preferred keyboard settings as appropriate for the language. Font behavior can also be set there. So depending on how you work just ...

Re: Two Language Fonts in Styles?

There is no way to tell a single style that "these characters should be in font A and those characters in font B". But (what I think) is the better way to handle such situations is to create "language" character styles. So in your case you could create a character style "Hebrew", and attach the lang...

Are the rest of you using 10.14(.1)? Is it something 10.14 has brought in?
Indeed. I am currently testing this on 10.14.1.

I think the documentation and the menus would be clearer if they said “cmd-h cmd-3” because that is really the way the system sees it and it’s more instructive to the user
Well no. That is not how it works. That makes it look like you have to press twice.

Re: Hotkeys for paragraph styles

Thanks, if that’s in the manual, I couldn’t find it. Kind of critical to know however. You're referring specifically to the need to hold the command key while typing the full shortcut? I just checked in the manual, and as far as I can see, it seems you are right. Well that manual is quite a work of...

Re: Text colors change in Nisus 2 and 3

I hadn't really paid attention to this before, but I can confirm what Xuanying is saying: If I insert the text color Red from the menu I do not get (255, 0, 0) in NWP 3.0. Instead I get (251, 0 , 6). That's kind of a drag. One notable clue is that Kino's "Select by Attribute" macro seems unable to "...

Re: Hotkeys for paragraph styles

Hi Dan, the "hotkeys" you are referring to are also known as multi-key shortcuts. You will need to keep holding the command key while you type them. So press and hold <command>, and type H-3 before you let go. Nisus allows you to define shortcuts of up to 3 keys in length. [Having said that, my shor...

Re: Selecting paragraph and formatting

Since we're on the topic, I decided to try an experiment. I tried to use applescript to write a script to highlight every paragraph where the second letter was an "i". Not a particularly sensible task, but just something to test. I ran it on a list of words with about 1,500 paragraphs. The applescri...

Re: Selecting paragraph and formatting

You mean a ".nwm" file? A macro is just another "menu command" in Nisus. So, yes, of course you can run it from an applescript. In fact to do anything complex in Nisus, that would be my recommendation: write a Nisus macro, then run it from the applescript with a Do Menu Macro with macro command.

Re: Selecting paragraph and formatting

And one comment on this: A search of the Nisus Macro forum produced: tell application "Nisus Writer Pro" set doctext to text of front document set para to paragraph 1 of doctext end tell This code will basically extract the text from the first paragraph of the document and put it into a container in...
