Re: Export to RTF issues

As a side note, I wouldn't send an editable document to the printer, but a PDF file (if you can choose, with embedded fonts). You will be sure they will print exactly what you sent them.

Re: NWP on iPad?

If you export your document as a DOCX, Pages on the iPad should be able to read it. Tables are usually converted correctly, if not too complicate.

Yosemite forever

Hi, I don't know how many of us are stuck in Yosemite (nearly) forever. There is software I use for my main job, that will not work under El Capitan and work very bad under Sierra. In the meantime, some software I use for my personal activities, or side projects, no longer supports Yosemite. I'm liv...

Re: Facelift?

As time goes on, Nisus 3D icons, ruler and drawer contours are looking more and more alien to the Mac user interface. I wouldn't dislike they flatten them out a bit, in the same way Scrivener did (nothing radical, just a refresh). There would be no need for a complete overhaul, just an update to the...

Re: Default file format choice

Apart for Apple Pages, I believe that all word processors read RTF, so it should be a very safe choice. The next minor release of Nisus should even make the file format more solid than ever.

Re: Long delays on "Open": display of TOC

Generating a ToC of this huge document is slow by nature, due to the live process going on. My suggestion is to break the document into several shorter documents, each one with its own shorter ToC, save them into the same folder, and do your search by using the Finder's search function to locate the...

Re: Apple and RTF

Thank you, Mark, I had missed that thread. It seems Keith is for RTF, and will stay with it. In the end, it is Apple that did it wrong, as many other things in the recent instances of iWork.

Re: Why do you choose Nisus?

I came to Nisus after a long and troubled experience with wordprocessors. I guess I started with WordStar 2000 and Framework on a friend's PC, going through Microsoft Write (from Word 1.0 Mac) and WordPerfect on the Atari ST, then WriteNow, FullWrite and WordPerfect on the Mac. When I started having...

Re: Is Nisus compatible with WordFast program?

In the past, WordFast used to be written in Word's macro languages, and depended on Microsoft's wordprocessor. The current version should be totally independant from the wordprocessor, and also runs under Mac. Some of my collaborators rely on it, and are very happy of the results (as I am of what I ...

Re: Apple and RTF

Mark, While I'm not sure replacing the file format would require rewriting NWP, I agree with you that there may be licensing issues, and that in the end RTF will be Nisus' proprietary format, as DOCX and PAGES or ODT are for others. I'm sure RTF will be read by LibreOffice (or any variant) for a lon...

Re: Apple and RTF

While searching around for information about file formats, I found something maybe related to this discussion: the file format and compression schemes used in the three main text document formats on the Mac. - Nisus uses the traditional RTF scheme, an interchange format derived from the old Microsof...

Re: Apple and RTF

Martin, do you think Nisus can switch to Docx as its native format? All considered, it is a more modern format, and even easier to extract raw text from, in case of having to reuse older files.

Re: NW for iPad?

To just read RTF files on the iPad/iPhone, you can use Dropbox. Since you will probably use it to move the files from your Mac to the iDevice, the file is already there. Select it and see its content. Double-tap it to read it fullscreen.

In some cases, a simple copy & paste between applications might work as well.

Re: Devs: Split View Prognosis Please

I use the Open Copy macro very often, to keep a reference to a different part of the document open while writing a different section. Actually, I find it more convenient that a split widows, since with the copy open in a different window I'm free to place the reference where I prefer. Updating the c...
