Re: What is Nisus doing when it is "typesetting text"?

Hi Patrick, many thanks for a very interesting reply. Although I say it is multi-document in fact MacJournal keeps all those documents in a "package" a type of file on the Mac which looks like a file but behaves a bit like a folder, it contains a user navigable directory, if you wish to navigate it ...

Re: What is Nisus doing when it is "typesetting text"?

Hi (and a very Happy New Year to all Nisus users and official persons), This topic encapsulates a number of concerns I've had for a while. I too keep a daily diary - nowhere near as long as Ken's but long enough to cause a longish "typsetting text" phase while opening it, which I always do in draft ...

A brief comment about your latest e-mail newsletter

Nisus person wrote: In the meantime, we hope that you will have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I wholeheartedly wish all the many US citizens among Nisus's clientele an excellent Thanksgiving. I have to confess, however, that I shall be trying to get through next Thursday bereft of turkey, pumpkin pie or...

Re: Find and replace across multiple files

Many thanks for those pointers: I'm still something of a beginner with macros, but I'll try the one you suggested. As for the book by Joe Kissell, I look forward to hearing about - and ordering - it. Whatever the potential of macros, I agree that a built-in multi-file search function would be a powe...

Find and replace across multiple files

Hello, As far as I can tell, it isn't possible to search and replace across multiple NWP files. As I recall, this used to be possible with Word (and probably still is). It is certainly possible with BBEdit, which can even search files that aren't open. I'm beginning to feel a need for something like...

Semantically structured document

There something that's been bugging me ever since I started hearing about XML and other mark-up languages. If I could do it with Nisus Writer Pro, or an NWP macro, it would be great, but if that's not possible I'd appreciate pointers to other tools. I'd like to be able to easlly introduce semantic t...

Re: Footnotes adjacent to hyperlinks

Many thanks for the workaround, Hamid, which I'll be using from now on. Looking forward to a new version of NWP which will fix this bug, which is at the same time minor and extremely frustrating when you're rushing to get a key document published. And many thanks for your great software, which I use...

Re: Footnotes adjacent to hyperlinks

The plot thickens: I've just discovered that if I take the RTF file from which the footnotes have disappeared and open it within Word, all the footnotes are there.

So the footnotes have not actually been lost: they simply aren't being displayed in NWP.

Footnotes adjacent to hyperlinks

Hi, I've been having a frustrating problem with Nisus Writer Pro 2.0.2 on a Mac running OS X 10.6.8. Writing in French, I have a document in which I insert footnotes adjacent to hyperlinked words - and then find on saving then reopening the document that all the footnotes have vanished. The footnote...

"Remind me later" (but not every five minutes...)

I love Nisus Writer Pro, use it every day and will soon get round to downloading the new version, I promise! However this morning I have some really urgent work to do... A little suggestion: maybe you good folks could reduce the frequency with which the program interrupts me to ask if I want to inst...

Re: Exporting to HTML without stylesheet info

Ralph: many thanks for your reply. I'd already noticed that when I copy (command-C) text from an MS Word file into a Wordpress window, the attributes are conserved (including links to footnotes), and I can then see the data as HTML. Needless to say, in true Word fashion the latter is pretty messy. H...

Re: Exporting to HTML without stylesheet info

Many thanks for that, Martin Jerry's macro indeed seems like the kind of thing I'm looking for, although I fear that implementing it may be beyond my current rather modest abilities. More generally, I'm interested in the ways a document can be made "interoperable" in the sense that it can be switche...

Exporting to HTML without stylesheet info

Hi, I'm looking for the most efficient way to export a file to HTML, but without the stylesheet data that's inserted via the standard NWP command. The idea would be to disregard parameters such as fonts and colours, and simply map the RTF content defined in my simple NWP template to basic HTML tags....

Some kind of XML

I've been hearing for years about XML, have understood its usefulness but have never actually found a way of using it for my own work. I note that most of the web sites which discuss using XML for writing are oriented towards technical writers. Although I'm technically literate, most of my writing i...

After crash - reinstall NWP?

Hi, After over six months of trouble-free work with NWP, I've just had a nasty experience. I'd imported a Word document received over the Internet, opening it in Word, saving it as RTF and then reopening it under NWP. After a few minutes' work the document froze - I could open and close NWP, but I c...
