Lulu complains Mac Quartz PDF inferior, says use Acrobat

Hi, On search of "Lulu" I don't find a thread about this, so here's a quick start: Lulu (book POD printer) says using the Mac OS print engine to make PDFs is a bad idea. Says to use Acrobat. I've been ignoring them for several years, because Acrobat is expensive and making PDFs directly from Nisus (...

Hmm, interesting thought, I'll look...but even if so, would the Style Sheet be converted to PDF?

Removed Font still shows up in PDF as Embedded Subset

Hi, I'm attempting to clean unused fonts for my Nisus RTF-->to-->PDF file as much as possible before creating a PDF for printing. But after successfully removing font Thonburi from Nisus RTF (I thought, because the Find Macro no longer finds it) I discover that it still shows up in the newly-generat...

Re: Powerfind Q - Contains a semicolon in dialog

Hi Adrian, Thanks again, and I will study your Pro example explanation in more detail. The one spot where I'm fuzzy is the differentiation between Capture in PowerFind bubbles and Capture in Pro. My attempt at explaining Capture was based on the bubbles usage -- that they're like a glorified parenth...

Re: Powerfind Q - Contains a semicolon in dialog

G’day, WF, jb et al If you increase the font size in your browser, you will see that the double quote marks in my Find expression are actually one set of smart opening double quotes and one set of smart closing double quotes. Hi Adrian, Thanks again! (I had noticed your curly quotes, yes.) I tested...

Re: Powerfind Q - Contains a semicolon in dialog

Hi Adrian and jb I thank both of your for your efforts, and we're getting there fast. :) I wrote a too-long reply to Adrian before seeing jb's new contribution and luckily there was a power failure for three hours here and my reply was lost, so I can catch up to both of you. And I'm very happ...

Re: Powerfind Q - Contains a semicolon in dialog

This works for me, but I got tripped up because I had plain quotes in the text being searched and smart quotes in my Find expression... Note Semicolon with space following. I checked by copying/pasting what's below into the search box. The bubbles get rendered here as parentheses. I put period, que...

Re: Powerfind Q - Contains a semicolon in dialog

Hi, Simply put, I want to find all dialog that contains a semicolon. Should be simple but so far isn't. A -- "This is dialog." B -- "This is dialog also; but it contains a semicolon." I want to make a PowerFind expression that selects B but not A. (I don't need replace, because I'll be moving throu...

Powerfind Q - Contains a semicolon in dialog

Hi, I've spent an hour with the manual examples and read the Capture threads on the forum, but no luck so far figuring out my problem. Simply put, I want to find all dialog that contains a semicolon. Should be simple but so far isn't. A -- "This is dialog." B -- "This is dialog also; but it contains...

Re: How to find m-dash without specific Character Style?

G’day, WF et al I tried using PowerFind Pro to find font-specific em dashes, but with no success at first. It does find font-specific words composed of usual alphabetic characters. Normal Find does find font-specific em dashes. When I subsequently tried PowerFind Pro again (after the Normal Find te...

Re: How to find m-dash without specific Character Style?

Hi WF, 3. Now execute the menu command "Invert Selection" (Edit > Select > Invert Selection) Nice! Thanks. And I'm doubly silly, because as I was working on this the thought crossed my mind briefly: "If there was an invert selection command like they have in graphics programs, I could do this." And...

Re: How to find m-dash without specific Character Style?

Hi, Do you want all m-dashes to have the same font/character style? If so, can’t you simply find all m-dashes with Attribute Sensitive turned off—this will find all m-dashes—and then apply the font or character style? Short form: Aha! Silly of me. Long form: I didn't notice this probably because I'...

How to find m-dash without specific Character Style?

Hi, I've been puzzling over this one, reading in the power-find etc. , but can't figure it out. It will be tricky to explain, here goes: --I have about 3 thousand m-dashes in a 500 page book, and almost all have a character style that makes them Font X. --The problem: a few times I forgot to add the...

Re: Mac Spellchecker flags ligatures fi and fl as wrong

Perhaps it is a font problem that the Nisus ligature feature does not work. I have the opposite problem, it works although I don't want ligatures. I don't want ligatures because if I create a pdf of a Nisus document with ligatures Apple's Preview does not find words with ligatures. Interesting. And...

Mac Spellchecker flags ligatures fi and fl as wrong

Hi, This seems like an obvious bug (or, if you prefer, negative feature). Detail: What I did: I replaced the 'fi' and fl' in a common font (New Century Schoolbook) with the fl and fi ligatures for that font. I did so after the fact, by search and replace, since the text was already written without l...
