Possible Font bug
So I may have dug up a bug. When you have a document open to the Character palette, where you can change the font of selected: if you install a new font and then try to change text via the dropdown menu, Nisus goes, well, broke, I guess is the appropriate word. Redrawing stops working, and ultimatel...

Re: Run a specific macro whenever a specific file is opened?
Application installed services are actually coded inside the application itself and registered with the system. It's dead certain that in this case, the Nisus services are actually written in Objective-C as part of the main application. It's all keyed to the clipboard when an application provides th...

Re: Margins
Good list, phspaelti. I would note that I think I've figured out how to create a textbox, and once you have a textbox you can duplicate it and add it to text. The solution that I'm thinking of is to issue the menu command to do a new textbox, then drop into Applescript and issue a couple of mouse co...

Margins
So I was looking into a macro to write annotations on the left side of a page, in the margin area. Which meant I needed to know the page dimensions, the "writeable" box, etc. Turns out there is no way to get that info or manipulate the margins? In truth, there appears to be no way to manip...

Re: Nisus hangs on export
Interesting. I was able to replicate the hang with your document. So looking deeper, it appears that the very last thing in the document is a tracked change of a deletion of a table of contents thing. a chapter 16 about a fingerbone or something. This of course explains why the document is hanging; ...

Re: Printing comments as annotations in NWP 2.1.3 not workin
I just checked, and PDFPenPro can indeed turn the boxes transparent, also it can append an "Annotation summary" at the end of the document. However, instead of along the left side, it places the note content at the bottom, as a footnote. PDFPenPro is pricy though. If you have lots of PDF w...

Re: Change embedded TIFFs to JPEGs in rtf document
You do not need to use Photoshop; the built-in "Automator" program can batch convert an entire set of files. What I would do is save your Nisus document as file type "RTFD". This will generate a file that actually has all of your images inside a folder inside the file. You can th...

Re: Printing comments as annotations in NWP 2.1.3 not workin
At least in my copy of Preview, the annotations printed on the side point to the corresponding square icon in the text. Move the icon where you want the comment to be and Preview draws a line connecting the comment to its icon. Yes, when you select "open in preview" in the Nisus Print dial...

Re: Printing comments as annotations in NWP 2.1.3 not workin
This is easily done. User manual, Page 345. Simply export your document as a PDF, using "export as PDF" under the file menu. Name it something temporary. Then, in Preview, open your saved PDF document. You will note lots of colored squares where your comments are. Move them if possible so ...

Re: Retain italics in Table of Contents?
I've dealt with something similar before. I write legal documents with long headings; usually they spill over two to three lines. Depending on the level of the heading, I differentiate between headings with various combinations of bold and capitalization. When the TOC is generated, it only brings th...

Re: Comments question
To expand a little bit: You can add comments in a number of ways. The main one is by using the button on the toolbar as mentioned above. But here's the thing: if you don't have anything selected, adding a comment will select the previous word and add the comment to that. If you want to comment, say,...

Re: Extracting images from the document
So I'm curious, but couldn't you just save it as an "RTFD" file and show package contents? Doesn't a RTFD file have a directory inside it with all the embedded images?
For something like a sharepoint site, this may also be a solution.

Re: Default file format choice
Use RTF. It's the "default" format. The others have their uses, but they are more specialized. RTFD is the same as RTF but with special handling for lots of images; it really comes into it's own if you have the same image multiple times in your document. Outside of the image use case, it's...

Re: Creating Different Sections or Columns in Headers/Footer
First, you have to click, hold and then drag. But you cannot shrink the footer so small it cuts off the content. There are at least two, possibly three lines of blank text in the footer. The table occupies one of them, but the other line is still there, and still takes up space. This is probably the...

Re: Creating Different Sections or Columns in Headers/Footer
Unfortunately, the column feature is not available for headers and footers. Which is a shame, but there is good news. The way to do what you want is to use a table. In your footer, insert a one row, two or three column table. With it selected, you can turn off all the table grid lines. Then, put you...
