Re: Keeping files on a separate partition. Why?
Hi Þorvarður, many thanks for your reply. You write: I suggest you ask the question again on the NW Pro forum, where the original poster made the statement. People who have subscribed to the NW Pro forum may not always have subscribed to The Blank Page as well. I actually didn't do that myself until...

Keeping files on a separate partition. Why?
In a separate post on the NW Pro forum, CrisB states: "My files are on a separate disk partition and have been for increased security for ever, my first Mac was a Mac Plus many many years ago." As someone who is obsessive about security, but not particularly technically savvy, I'd like to ...

Re: Vanishing software: what happened to Ember?
Many thanks for that, Hamid. It sure doesn't jump out at you when you look at their site.
As I've always avoided cloud-based services, and only use the software on one machine, I've never encountered any of the problems they mention.

Vanishing software: what happened to Ember?
For several years I've been using the Ember image-clipping program for Mac (previously known as LittleSnapper) almost daily. However just now when I wanted to consult the support, I was sent to an error message on the website of the company responsible for it, RealMac ( https://www.realmacsoftware.c...

Space above a paragraph immediately below header
To prepare a document for printing in Page View, I often juggle the amount of space above and/or below a given paragraph style. I observe that when I do this with a style placed right at the top of my document, ie immediately below the page header, changing the amount of space above the style has no...

Re: Long delays on "Open": display of TOC
Thanks to an exchange with Martin, the problem has now been solved.
The phenomenon was being caused by some kind of bug in the Document Manager.
When I open the document directly from NWP, the problem goes away.
Many thanks for all the help with this problem.

Re: Invisibly Tagging Text
Hi, I'm not sure how desirable this is; I'm aware the example I gave in the recent thread mentioned by adryan is both eccentric and improvised. However it occurs to me that a simpler approach to what adryan suggests would be to make certain content hideable and/or deleteable within a document. Inste...

Re: Long delays on "Open": display of TOC
Many thanks for all these very interesting suggestions. Þorvarður's info concerning the "search across all open documents" macro is a revelation, which I intend to look into. I'm also grateful for the feedback on tagging and databases, which I will follow up as soon as possible. Like many ...

Re: Long delays on "Open": display of TOC
Thanks Philip and Paolo for those suggestions. Splitting up the document is a possibility, but unless mistaken I would lose the ability to carry out "attribute sensitive" searches using Nisus's style tools, which as far as I know is not possible via Spotlight. Of course what would be reall...

Re: Long delays on "Open": display of TOC
Hi Adrian and Philip, many thanks for those suggestions. In reply to Philip, yes I learned very early on *never* to try and open the file in page view, and I take great care never to click on the icon by mistake! Accordingly, the TOC I've been using does not include page numbers. If one day I decide...

Re: Long delays on "Open": display of TOC
I'm sorry that there has not been anyone available to address my problem, which I think may be relatively simple to solve. Perhaps it has something to do with the preferences for Nisus? Pending a solution I go on opening the file every day, and waiting around five minutes for the spinning beachball ...

Long delays on "Open": display of TOC
Hi, I work almost every day on a long document which is a kind of diary. For reasons of searchability I've so far resisted the temptation to split it into several parts and it currently runs to just over 500,000 words. I use styles a lot, to define different types of entry along with key words. Each...
