Proprietary is the opposite of open. This is from Webopedia's dictionary of computer terms but it coincides with every other use of the term I have heard: open architecture: An architecture whose specifications are public. This includes officially approved standards as well as privately designed arc...

RTF might be a format used by Word but it is THE format used by Cocoa. If you want things done the way Cocoa does them and you want your documents to be compatible with other Cocoa applications rtf is a good choice. I don't immediately see how rtf forces you to do anything much more word like than b...

1.0 Announcement
Hmmm. How come I don't get announcements regarding updates or now the final release? No biggy; I find out fast enough. Anyway, from the announcement: After final release of this version, we will be adding features frequently to satisfy your demands, but for now we must ask you to focus on helping us...

Re: I hate the find panel
First, I hate the little preview screen. I often used find to select (for example) every paragraph with the phrase "Human Factors" in it, so that I could copy them and paste into another document. Now find just selects stuff in this stupid little pane and I can't see any way to copy it (e...

I hate the find panel
Okay, I think I gave some feedback to beta one saying that I didn't see why the find panel should operate like the other pallettes. I am sure you have your reasons but I really must say that the more I use the current version the more I hate nearly everything about it. First, I hate the little previ...

The real frustrating thing for those of us who were Nisus users under OS 9 (and 8 and 7), is that we have lots of documents in the old Nisus format that are more or less unusable in NWE. I guess I can understand that getting the interface and the underlying structure of the program right might take ...

Re: what I need...
Howdy, What I need () is ... Mathematical Equations (When will MathType X ever come out - can it integrate with NW X like the OS 9 version did qwith NW?).... Have you looked at Equation Service? I don't really have much call for equations but it looks like it should do more or less what you w...

There appears to be some sort of bug in their feedback mechanism. I already reported it to them. If you look in the console log file (by opening the console application in the utilities folder in your application folder) you will see all the error messages spewed out by various programs when things ...

I had a different problem. I got the feedback form but when I clicked "send feedback" nothing seemed to happen. I sent a copy to the email address that the "Thank you for downloading the Nisus Writer Express Public Beta," message was sent out on (sales@nisus.com).
