one to two columns
Hello together, I am sure that somebody here on the forum has an advice how to transform a list from one to two columns. I have in a document a section that looks like HEADLINE Entry A Entry B Entry C Entry D Entry E etc. The entries are alphabetically sorted and short. From time to time there comes...

Mojave Crash
Updated my system to Mojave. Worked on a large Nisus document. Then opend a second document. When I saved my changes of the second document and closed it, Nisus crashed. A litle bit of work in my first document is lost. Tried to send the crash report with the build in Nisus feedback. That wasn't pos...

Second line indent after Soft return and Sierra
Hello, I just updated to Sierra and now my old Nisus documents are wrong formatted: The indent after a soft return is ignored. Before Sierra the first line after a soft return was also indented just like the second line. Now the first line after a soft return starts like after a hard return from the...

Small problem with big document
Hello, I am working on an 800 pages text document. It needs on my computer about 2,5 minutes to open it. Therefore I usually didn't close it in evening but let it open until the next day to go on working. But since some weeks this is no more possible. If I enter text the next day I see the spinning ...

Re: Soft Hyphen
Good hint. I checked it too and saw that my old Jenson does not have a soft hyphen. OK, now I understand.xiamenese wrote:I checked using the "Show Emoji and Symbols" in the flag menu

Re: Soft Hyphen
Hi – what way do you enter Soft-Hyphen? Did you try via PopChar – the Soft-Hyphen glyph seems to be contained in the font, or? HE Added it through Nisus menu "Insert > Special Characters > Dashes and Hyphens > SoftHyphen". I don't have PopChar. I don't know wether the Soft-hyphen glyph i...

Re: Soft Hyphen
But I'd simply try highlighting that soft-hyphen, maybe including a bit of the surrounding text, then clicking in the font menu and deliberately choosing Adobe Jenson Pro from that. It should change, and the font box should turn black. Already tried it. If I select the surrounding the entry in the ...

Soft Hyphen
In the example attached below one can see two normal hyphens (automatic hyphenation) and a soft hyphen which was necessary in that position to avoid a wrong hyphenation (German hyphenation ist still not reliable at all). This third hyphen is obviously taken from another font. The text is Adobe Jenso...

Re: LibreOfficeImporter hanging
The solution of Hamid “Unchecking 'Load file Importers in the background after Nisus Writer Starts'" works also perfect for me. The amok running LibreOfficeImporter never came back. Thanks to Hamid!

Re: Initials
Hello Ben, thanks for your suggestions. Of course it would be better to maintain "live" letters. I tried to insert the initials not as jpeg but directly as pdf. The result was, that Nisus does not treat them as graphics but as normal text letters. Your second proposal is also not practicab...

Re: Initials
Today I learned, that the English name of these "initials" is indeed Drop Caps (as you wrote). Didn't know that word before. Yes, I made it as graphic. I wrote the desired capitals in a Nisus doc with 55 point and saved it as PDF. Then opened the pdf with GraphicConverter in 300 dpi, cut o...

Re: Initials
I think, there does not exist a printed edition of Joseph Conrad with additional space before paragraphs. In print a new paragraph is marked by indentation, not by additional space. I prefer 3 lines for the height of the initials, but that's not important, others may make 4,5,6 ... lines. Enclosed a...

Re: Initials
Very nice, never saw before "shape metrics". One never stops learning.
But now line 5 should also have the same space, then it is perfect.
