Re: Sonoma compatibility
There are definitely compatibility issues with Nisus Writer and macOS Sonoma. The most prominent is related to system-wide auto-completion, which triggers crashes in Nisus Writer. We have a pre-release beta version of Nisus Writer Pro that attempts to fix the most serious of these problems. We’re ve...

Re: spellcheck glitch
Have you checked that the spelling dictionary is correct for the language that's applied to your document text? For example: the Language menu/palette may have the "English (British)" language applied, but what spelling dictionary is set for this language? You can check this in your Nisus ...

Re: Use Nisus to annotate and index a Word doc?
I'll second the workflow recommended by Mark: use RTF to interchange files with Word whenever possible. Word has excellent support for RTF, and it should have no trouble importing an RTF file saved by Nisus Writer. You can also Save your document as a .doc from Nisus Writer and it will actually have...

Re: Sonoma compatibility
At this moment there seems to be some issues with Nisus Writer and macOS Sonoma. I've seen sporadic reports of Nisus Writer crashing on the Sonoma beta, but I don't know the exact cause or triggering conditions. As Sonoma is still unfinished I can't say whether these issues will be resolved by Apple...

Re: vanishing text, corrupt file
I'm sorry you're having trouble with your data. Is the text actually gone ("vanished")? If so that could indicate a Nisus Writer layout issue. I'd switch your document to Draft View to spot check and look for the missing text. It's simpler than Page View and likely to sidestep any complica...

Re: Line spacing problem in lists
Based on the screenshot you provided, the unwanted spacing is likely caused by the list bullet character you've chosen. That triangular arrow ▷ may trigger font substitution, which means a fallback font with different metrics will change the line height. On my Mac the fallback font happens to be Hir...

Re: Using images as cell background
Hi Marina: this is indeed possible. Here's how you can do it: 1. Select the cells you want to modify (or place the insertion point inside the single cell you want to modify). 2. Use the menu Table > Shading Pattern > Image From File... 3. Use the standard file dialog to choose the image file. That s...

Re: Find/Replace-window - Font size
Welcome to Nisus and our forums :) The find/replace window will default to using the font/size of the active document's Normal paragraph style. However, if that's too small for some document, there is a separate zoom feature in the find panel. When the panel is active you can use the normal Zoom men...

Re: Ventura and proplem opening documents from Finder
I spoke with Judy about this over email and a simple restart cleared the problem up, so it was likely some temporarily muddled bits in the Finder or macOS.

Of course! Nisus Writer uses the Oniguruma regex engine.

Re: Entering UTF-8 code points in Find and Replace
Can I point out, though, that while "\Uxxxx" works in NWP, it fails in other regex-enabled apps like Scrivener which are also built on the same Apple TextKit. In Scrivener, the "u" must be lowercase, and I would suspect this to be more canonical. You can also use \u0074 in Nisus...

Re: Change the Normal Style via Macro
Wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction to create macro which will change the font of the Normal paragraph style in a document. As usual there's a few different ways you could come at this, depending on your exact situation. But here's what's probably the most general purpose macro ...

Re: Introducing Clipboarder
Thanks for sharing your macro Lou! This looks very nicely done and certainly handy 8) As for the troubles with permissions, it's best not to assume Nisus Writer will have access to any folder on disk. I'd amend your macro(s) to explicitly establish access to the desired clipboard storage folder. I'd...

Re: Ventura -- QuickKeys limitation
Congrats on the new MacBook! As for your troubles, when you say "QuickKeys" do you mean Nisus Writer's Menu Keys preferences pane? Those settings should be working properly with macOS Ventura (and later). There are no known compatibility issues. One suggestion: follow our FAQ on how to bac...
