Sorry. There are two parts to my solution. One is a sort of work around that will work now. The other is something the Nisus people will have to program. The work around is to create a new style by clicking on the + button in the style pallette. Select "Character Style". This will open the...

Under what circumstance would you want character formatting stripped when you apply paragraph styles? Well, I have a tendency to copy stuff from various sources into my documents (e.g., from web pages, other documents...). These other sources will have text of various colors and fonts. With the cur...

Suggestion: Create a character style called italics or emphasis with the property that it sets the text to italics. Use this style instead, and your italics will not go away when you change paragraph styles. I personally think it should work the way it does with one exception. If your style doesn't ...

It might be nice to be able to set various styles to look different in draft and page view modes. That way you could have Normal be white text in draft mode and black text in page view mode. Unfortunately I can't immediately think of a nice interface for this but maybe someone else can.

I am sorry to hear about your problems. NWE has been very stable for me. I think 2.0 crashed on me once or twice but I have been using 2.0.1 every day since it came out and never had it crash. Running 10.3.4 and 10.3.5 on a G5 and a dual 1.42Ghz G4.

I haven't experimented with this much because my knowledge of both perl and rtf tags is quite limited, however the perl scripting built into Nisus seems to be able to see the rtf tags (perl scripts just treat the document as a text file). I don't know if that helps you but...

This isn't the greatest solution but it might get you through your Wednesday deadline and it is free. Combine PDFs allows you to take any pdf and reorder the pages.

First, you might want to check out one of several programs designed to make pdfs into booklets. I haven't used any of them so I can't really recommend one, but it sounds like they may do what you want. Find them at http://www.versiontracker.com and search for booklet. Second, I don't work for Nisus ...

That page describes how to make a booklet in NW 6 not NWE. As the "Express" implies, NWE has only a subset of the features of NW 6 (albeit with a nicer interface). You could try creating a document in landscape orientation and printing two columns, but there are limits to what you can do t...

Re: formatting issues

the last lines of paragraphs sometimes decide to indent themselves (so an 8-line paragraph suddenly emulates, in its last line, the initial indent of a "body" paragraph. For a while I was having this problem a lot. Then it seemed to go away. But yesterday I sent a document to a collaborat...

That is weird. Have you tried using the same font in TextEdit. It sounds like the operating system, not NWE. Nothing one application can do should prevent you from being able to switch to another application.

Yeah. It is a little surprizing that NWE doesn't get this right, since NW Classic got it right and TextEdit seems to get this right.

Re: Zapf and Other DingBats

Two things don’t compute here: (1) TextEdit is a native application, yet there is no Special Characters menu item. Yes it does. Look under the Edit menu. (3) NWX thinks characters formatted as dingbats aren’t formatted at all, even if you use the special System Character Palette to insert dingbats ...

Anomalies regarding spaces

A couple anomalies I noticed. First, if I search for a space using PowerFind Pro (or PowerFind for that manner) it finds any blank space (space, return or tab). However if I find "Space or Tab" it finds only spaces and tabs (not returns). Somehow I would expect "Space or Tab" to ...

I just replicated the problem with the left handles. Interestingly, it seems that shift dragging the bottom left handle does not maintain proportionality, but shift dragging the top left handle does. I am not sure if I understand your other problem but I have a related one (maybe the same one). I re...
