Yes, it is awkward. I hope someone else has a more elegant solution. If you need to use it often, I do suggest adding the non-breaking hyphen to your favorites, which would reduce the awkwardness a bit.

There might be a better way to do this, but here's one way. 1. Open the system's Character Palette (Edit > Special Characters; or click the language/flag menu extra if it's visible toward the right of the menu bar, then Show Character Palette). 2. In the search field at the bottom, enter 2011. 3. Do...

Depending how your document is set up, this might or might not work. 1. Click in a bit of Arial text. 2. If you see the symbol a in the status bar, click it, choose Select All. 3. Change the font to Times New Roman. This won't catch bits that have other font attributes changed (italic, bold, size, e...

2. Can you save multiple copies of the original file (one for each chapter), then delete all but that one chapter? I didn't approach it this way because it is a very large file and selecting all but one chapter is a very slow and tedious process, so I tried the copying and cutting described above i...

A couple of ideas to try. 1. Can you copy chapters individually into 2.7? I've found 2.7 stabler than 2.6.1 when it comes to doing things similar to what you're trying to do or to what I'm about to suggest. 2. Can you save multiple copies of the original file (one for each chapter), then delete all ...

Hello, Philippe. Once you have selected a number of styles in the left column in a Style Sheet, you should be able to select multiple styles on the right by clicking the first and command-clicking the rest. Does that work for you?

"Applying font attributes to a style" is not clear to me - I thought a style included font attributes. I don't yet know what status bar tags are. You're right. Styles can include font attributes. But you can also apply font attributes on top of styles. For instance, you might italicize or...

I thought your idea of putting templates in the Document Manager was pretty ingenious. I see two potential pitfalls, though. 1. The Document Manager doesn't give you a box to uncheck, so you can't as easily open a template for editing through the Document Manager. 2. That delete button makes it a li...

Hi, Mark. Though internally Nisus Writer Express refers to the "Document Manager," the folder is called "Nisus Documents." Nisus Writer Express should have automatically created the "Backups" folder and, I suppose, the others you mentioned. Just leave those sub-folders ...

1.How do I get palettes back in the tooldrawer once I have moved them onto the screen? Click the X in the upper right corner of the palette. 2. To get all headings into my chosen font, do I need to adjust each one, or is there a way to tell NWE I want all headings in that font and size? Edit the st...

I suspect you have been saving your files as Document Templates. In the Save As dialog, click the pop-up field next to File Format and choose "Rich Text Format (RTF) (Preferred)." Part of the problem might be that Nisus Writer Express remembers the last format in which you saved a document...

Silas, your experience is very much like mine. I started with WordPerfect 4.1 and used it through version 10, then get fed up with Windows and switched to a Mac (beginning with Panther). The hardest part of making the jump was leaving WordPerfect behind. Part of the attraction of Nisus Writer Expres...

I believe that Nisus Writer, the pre-Mac OS X version of Nisus Writer Express, had something very much like what you want. (Not having used Nisus Writer, I can't say for certain.) So far, though, Nisus Writer Express doesn't support this. I wouldn't be surprised if it showed up eventually, but it is...

No, the section break does not print as a visible character or line. It's like a page break in many respects.
