Re: Import a List of Specialized Words into Spelling Diction

What I did: I took the list of specialized words, put it in a blank Nisus document, and then when the words came up as unknown, I asked the dictionary to lear them by clicking on the «LEARN» button. There might be a quicker way, but that one works for me…

Re: Nisus 2.0.3 won't open – HELP!

First of all, sorry! I don't know how I posted the thread twice. I was really troubled by the fact I had a problem with the update, a first in my Nisus life! I suppose I can't suppress the other one, so Martin, when you read this, and I fervently hope you read this soon, do it for me, please! I have...

Nisus 2.0.3 won't open – HELP!

I downloaded it and installed it, and it asked me whether I wanted to restore my windows. I said yes, and it quit. I started again, it asked again whether I wanted to restore my windows, and I said no, and it quit. I threw it away and reloaded a fresh copy from your site, and it asked me… I shan't r...

Re: Seeing all footnotes at once: possible?

Gosh, Hamid! Thank you! Why didn't I wait. I had not noticed that the green tab appears when you are in a footnote, but only then. I have now converted the notes to text, then noticed that when you do that the notes numbers disappear (but I did this on a copy, thank God!), and I was furious. I haven...

Re: Seeing all footnotes at once: possible?

HELP! I have, for once, written a book with about 50 footnotes. Some of them are longish. They have gone mad. The number is on one page, the note 2 pages later, some notes are partly not readable, it's a real mess. I thought I could remedy this by changing footnotes to endnotes, but a realized that ...

Re: Nisus for iPad

Yes, there are, here is one. The Nisus people already told us on this forum ( http://nisus.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=4433 ) that it would mean rewriting the whole application, and they are a very small outfit. For me, the absence of a word processor with high standards like Nisus on the iPa...

Nisus for creative writing, novels in particular

You have been advertising big on how handy Nisus is to write novels. I agree with you. I have celebrated a few days ago my 20th Nisus anniversary. During that time, I have written twelve novels and I am writing the thirteenth. Plus a couple of plays, film scripts and such. I have earned half a dozen...

Seeing all footnotes at once: possible?

I have tried to find a way to see all footnotes at once and haven't been able to find one. Am I missing something? Thanks for helping!

Re: German Hyphenation / Nisus Documents on Server

I hadn't looked at this conversation for a while. I find ThomasF solutions quite interesting, but I'm afraid to tamper with such deep hidden files, I must say. In the meantime, I have resorted to the simple way: I have hyphenation unchecked, and if I have to give an article or any kind of text, I ju...

Re: British English Dictionary?

PS. Hoberdiek, I don't know what you mean by the finger pointing icon, so maybe someone else will help with that…
In the meantime, I thought I should send you a shot of the preference panel for Languages.
Cheers again.

Re: British English Dictionary?

Unless you have thrown out all dictionaries but the US one, you have your choice of dictionaries in the Language palette, you can just click on the one you want. Moreover, in the Preference pane, go to Languages, you can choose which English you want to control. I have chosen British English myself,...

Re: German Hyphenation / Nisus Documents on Server

Are you sure the language attribute was set as French? Yes, I am sure. I use the original English interface of Nisus, I have French checked in the Language palette. Nevertheless, I once changed to the French interface in order to check about the hyphenation, even though I don't really like that Fre...

Re: German Hyphenation / Nisus Documents on Server

Thank you, Martin, it is now quite clear: the confusion arose from the fact that I had not used Hyphenation for a long time, and thought it would turn itself off automatically if exported to Word or Quark X Press, whereas I should have turned it off myself before giving the text any further. One liv...

Re: German Hyphenation / Nisus Documents on Server

I just want to clarify this, Martin: under «soft» hyphen, one used to understand an hyphen which would disappear automatically when uploaded in another format that Nisus supported if the way the words were on the page did not ask for it. Now it's different: hyphens are not soft any longer. When they...

Re: iPad compatible NWP?

I think the Kindle Fire and Air would be an ideal combinationfor me. I thought so too, then I borrowed a Kindle, and realized that with an iPhone4 and its wonderful screen, as a reading tool it's just great. I have a subscription to the monthly Le Monde diplomatique, and it's one of the things I re...
