Import a List of Specialized Words into Spelling Dictionary?

Post by samuelmuindi »

Hi,

I have a long list of specialized and foreign words in my MS Word Dictionary. Quite lazily, I have been opening my Nisus documents in Word just to use this dictionary for my spell checks. Is there a quick and easy way to get these words en masse into my Nisus Dictionary? I really would like to to go totally MS Word free.

Thanks

What I did: I took the list of specialized words, put it in a blank Nisus document, and then when the words came up as unknown, I asked the dictionary to lear them by clicking on the «LEARN» button. There might be a quicker way, but that one works for me…

Thanks Ann, I've done a bit of that - having the dictionary learn individual words - but unfortunately my specialized list numbers in the thousands. So I'm looking for a way to do this in one big swoop.

I'm attaching a macro that should do the trick:
1. Open your document with the misspelled words.
2. Run the attached macro.
3. The macro will scan the open document and gather all misspelled words.
4. The macro will ask you if you'd really like to learn all the collected words. Click "Learn All" to proceed.

That should do it. I should say that this learning process is done through whatever spellchecker you've told Nisus Writer to use. By default that's the OSX/system spellchecker, so any words you learn should now be known in other applications that use the same spellchecker (eg: TextEdit, Mail, etc).

Great macro, Martin, and thanks.
Only one thing.
Could you please modify it to apply it to a selected text ONLY and not to the whole file?
Thanks

Sure thing- I'm attaching a new macro here that handles both cases. This new macro will first search just the selected text for misspelled words. If it does not find any misspelled words in the selection, it asks you if you'd like to scan the whole document instead.
