Facing-pages view

Is there a way to display two facing pages in the editing view of a long document? This would be so helpful in the layout of an image-filled document in order to get an overall view of its appearance, balancing of pages, text flow, image size and placement, and so forth.

This feature has been requested before but so far it has not been implemented.
