letterhead help

Post by nisusnew » 2013-04-24 12:12:18

I am looking for help on how to create letterhead. I found this link, http://nisus.com/NisusWriter/Support/Ti ... erhead.php, but it looks a little complicated for my needs (and maybe outdated? for example, I don't fine "layout page" in the file menu).

I just want to put my name and title in larger font with my address and contact information underneath, centered. I tried to put it in the header of the first page and then mark "different first page" in the list of selections but what this does is leave the first page header blank and put my information in the second page header, but I want the opposite. I don't think section breaks will work in this situation.

Thanks,
Janice

Hello Janice

Maybe you need to reverse the order of your actions. Open your new page, make sure you have the tooldrawer open (command-shift-d or menu bar > View > Tooldrawer > Show) and click on the icon st the top which shows a page with a little margin in it -- that's page set up. In the page set up tooldrawer you want to see the palettes Section, Margins, Columns, and Header/Footer (that's the palette heading, it is named as "Headers and Footers" in the menu, a touch confusing, that).

If you haven’t got them, go to View > Toolbar again and select Show Palette Library. In the library, click on All, then click on the palette(s) you want and drag them into the tooldrawer. They will stick there. Close the Palette Library.

Now -- go through the palettes selecting the items you want. Of particular interest to you is the Margins palette -- set them, don’t worry about setting a generous header for your letterhead -- it will expand as needed. In the Header/Footer palette, check Different First Page.

In the header, set up your letterhead. When you have finished, click in the body of the page, do Command-A to select all (yes I know nothing is there!) and choose a style (the pencil icon tooldrawer) or a type and size (the T icon in the tooldrawer).

Now -- save this page as a template. Command-S, then in the "Save" dialog, choose the User name/Documents/Nisus Documents folder, and select the format Document template (which produces the suffix .dot) then save.

This document will now appear in Document Manager. I have my preferences (General > Other) set to On Application Launch: Show Document Manager so that whenever I launch Nisus, I see the document manager and can then select one of a number of different formats, including two different letterheads, for my new page. Double click on the letterhead .dot file and you will get a new untitled page with your letter head in it and when you move on to page 2 the letterhead will stay on page 1.

BY THE WAY -- I don’t save any general files to the Nisus Documents folder. The only files there are special files I want to access time and time again. I save off my work to work folders. This way, I don't clutter the Document Manager but keep it free for quick access to key files.

Hope that helps! :)

Best regards
Geoff

I just tried it and I see your point. The simple solution is to click on "different first page" first and then put the information into the header. :)

Hi Geoff,

That worked perfect - neat-o! And now I have spiffy new letterhead - yay!

(And thank you too Philip!)

Have a great day,
