As the subject line says, why are there three separate menu items to access document properties? Theres File:Properties ; there is Insert->Document Property-> Edit Property and another command to edit a Custom Property which leads to panel 2 of the Property dialog box.

Why not consolidate them all down into the Insert Menu?

Also, whist on the subject, would it be a good idea to have a preference to automatically scrub Doc properties on save/print to PDF? That's one of the big things that can bite and reveal metadata.

The menu File > Properties is standard for OSX, so it's the default expected place to look to edit properties. However, when it comes time to actually insert automatic content, users expect to look on the Insert menu, hence the duplication.

It's a small convenience, though it is superfluous, but serves to help discovery of the feature. I could see how it might be a bit disorientating at first, but I expect you (and most users) will quickly understand how it fits together.

You're the first to request such a feature, but we could file it as a possible enhancement. Most often I'd expect revealing the document properties to be harmless if a person already has access to the full document (or a PDF/printout thereof).

Metadata like document properties seems to be a bigger problem when a user is trying to create a redacted/partial file to share. Our redact macro garbles all document content and its properties.

Hmm. That redact macro slimes the entire text?

Yes, I'm in particular thinking of stuff in a legal context. I believe some poor large law firm secretary ended up costing her firm millions due to some Word document properties that were inadvertently provided during discovery. It could have easily been eliminated had a macro been automatically run that eliminated metadata on PDF creation.

I recognize that most Nisus users are more advanced than Word users, though.

Still, is there an option to hook a macro to that point in the document flow?

See, here's my fear: If I submit a RTF file to the court (as my jurisdiction requires for certain documents--makes using Nisus great, since it's RTF by default)--I would like to submit a "clean" document. No highlights, comments, document properties, etc. If I could attach or run a macro automatically that cleans all of that stuff in those situations, it would make it easier.

Such a macro is definitely possible. I'm attaching one here, though I assumed by removing "highlights" you meant accept all tracked changes. Let me know if it serves your purposes, or if it needs adjusting. Hopefully it could save your firm millions too!
