Nisus 2.1: few questions

Thanks for the update: very nice! I am trying it and it is working fine.
I have 3 questions:
1. I am using the Italian spellcheck and in the language space it does appear a kind of definition (not well formatted) of the actual word. Is the dictionary used the one included inside the program? It is possible to add another dictionary? Still no thesaurus for italian or other languages…
2. The palette shows only five groups of palettes out of six (the Reference Tools is out of sight!). I know that the palettes are rearrangeable, but it could have been nice to have at least the six standard groups…
3. according to the release, Nisus now connects to iCloud. On the Manual, the only mention to iCloud is in this paragraph: "The Mac App Store version has access to iCloud. The version you purchase from the nisus.com store cannot access iCloud, except under OS X 10.10 Yosemite." I have bought the program from your site. Does this means that the only way to access my iCloud storage is from the finder, from the folder iCloud, which is terribly unstable and unreliable?
Thank you for your wonderful job.

That's great, I'm glad to hear it!

Spellchecking in Nisus Writer Pro (NWP) has been, and continues to be, handled largely by your system (OSX). Any spelling dictionaries installed on OSX will appear as available in NWP. Just make sure to configure your NWP language options to use the desired spelling dictionaries. And yes, OSX will allow you to install additional spelling dictionaries.
2. The palette shows only five groups of palettes out of six (the Reference Tools is out of sight!). I know that the palettes are rearrangeable, but it could have been nice to have at least the six standard groups…
I'm not sure I understand exactly what you are saying. You can customize both the groups, and the palettes within each group. If you'd like to add a sixth group, use the menu command "New Palette Group" that appears when you click the >> chevron next to the palette groups.
3. according to the release, Nisus now connects to iCloud. On the Manual, the only mention to iCloud is in this paragraph: "The Mac App Store version has access to iCloud. Apple has opened up iCloud a little bit and made iCloud Drive available to all apps. You can access iCloud storage from within NWP, even if you purchased it from Nisus Software directly. However, iCloud Drive requires the use of Mac OSX Yosemite 10.10.

Thanks for your quick answer, Martin.

To stick to the points:

1. So Nisus adopts the dictionaries installed in the MacOsx Dictionary program. This is great, because I have two Italian Dictionaries that I can make use of. But it is not clear to me the mechanism: in fact I can also reach the Dictionary by Control+Click...

2. You cannot enlarge the palette: it stops to show only five groups. Other groups go off board: they are available only if click the >> sign.

3. iCloud. There is no folder in iCloud drive with the name "Nisus". So you have to create it "manually" and then recall it from the Document Manager. Is this correct? Could you please suggest how to use the iCloud drive?

Thanks a lot.

The behavior you see is expected. Only the main built-in groups are always showing; you must click the >> icon to see custom groups. But I understand your request now, and I'll file it as an enhancement, thank you.
3. iCloud. There is no folder in iCloud drive with the name "Nisus". So you have to create it "manually" and then recall it from the Document Manager. Is this correct? Could you please suggest how to use the iCloud drive?
It is probably best if I let Apple explain iCloud Drive. If you convert your iCloud account to iCloud Drive, then your entire iCloud storage will appear on your Mac as a single folder, available to all apps, including Pro 2.1.

Hi, I have a question about the 2.1 update as well:

I have been using Nisus Writer Pro 2 while keeping the Application Support > Nisus Writer folder on Dropbox (by using a symbolic link), so macros, glossaries, templates etcetera would always be available if I worked on a desktop or a notebook. I believe the update to 2.1 couldn't cope with that symbolic link.
It will probably be easy to move the Documents > Nisus Documents folder with macros and glossaries etc. back to Dropbox, using the Doc Manager.

But since updating I get some errors as well: an alert box that says "LibreOffice 4.0 - Fatal Error The application cannot be started. An internal error occurred." (Changing the file importers from LibreOffice to Mac OS X doesn't help).

And I get an alert: "Could not load Document Manager groups and files. Could not access the file "/Users/POost/Library/Containers/com.nisus.NisusWriter/Data/Library/Application Support/Nisus Writer Pro/Document Manager Settings" because The file “Document Manager Settings” couldn’t be opened because you don’t have permission to view it. [NSCocoaErrorDomain - code 257].

Thanks Martin!

The iCloud system is very buggy and unpredictable, I prefer dropbox or other services. Moreover any file created by Nisus in rtf and saved on iCloud could not be opened by Pages for instance. So it is useless…

Palettes: I hope that you can resolve the ugly bug I discovered (I think…): see my other post. Could you please tell me if there is a way to restore to factory settings the Palettes?
Thanks.

Your intuition is correct: now that Nisus Writer Pro (NWP) version 2.1 is sandboxed, it cannot follow symlinks (or aliases) that point outside the sandbox. That is why it could not load any support files like macros from your Dropbox. Changing your Document Manager folder location in NWP's preferences to someplace inside your Dropbox is indeed the easiest solution.
But since updating I get some errors as well: an alert box that says "LibreOffice 4.0 - Fatal Error The application cannot be started. An internal error occurred." (Changing the file importers from LibreOffice to Mac OS X doesn't help).
Could you please submit a report using the menu Help > Send Feedback after the error occurs? Thank you.

That is very strange. The path quoted in the error is inside NWP's sandbox, to which NWP should always have permission. After you sort out changing your Document Manager location, could you see if the problem still occurs? If so, please let me know so we can work together to track down the problem.

That's quite alright by us. You can configure NWP to save documents to your Dropbox instead of iCloud.

I see your other thread on palettes and reply there, thanks.

Hi Martin, thanks for your reply.
What I've done so far: I did a clean re-install of Nisus Writer Pro 2.1 on my MacBook. I copied the Nisus Documents folder to Dropbox (and my old templates, glossaries and macros), and redirected the program to that location in the Preferences. That went fast and easy and solved all the problems of the MacBook-copy. Strangely enough it solved some of the problems with the automatically updated iMac-copy as well, after I redirected that copy to the same Dropbox-locations. I suspect those new "pure" Dropbox-files must've done the trick. The only remaining error I've encountered on the iMac after working a couple of hours, was the ""LibreOffice 4.0 - Fatal Error" when I have the "Load file importers in the background"-option selected in the Advanced Preferences, or when actually trying to open a Word-doc with the LibreOffice-importers option. I submitted a report with description of that yesterday. I consider this not a big deal, but will be doing a clean re-install of Nisus Writer Pro 2.1 on the iMac as well soon, just to be sure.
Thanks again for replying, and for making my favorite Word-processor.
