Misbehaving headers

I am working on a book-length file. Yesterday I put a section break after each chapter, then inserted in each section appropriate headers/footers for that chapter, with the first page of each section different, and a difference between left- and right-hand pages. When I reopened the file this morning, the within-section distinctions had been preserved as they should, but the header text from the final section had copied itself into all the other sections.

Before I re-do the section headers, I would like to understand what is happening, and whether I've made a mistake somewhere.Has anyone else had a similar experience? Any explanation?

Hello Malcolm,

Did you make sure that the option "Different Headers" in the 'Headers and Footers' palette is enabled for *each* section?

If your headers and footers look correct before saving and closing the file, they should remain correct when you reopen the file. I would do a small test and correct a few of the headers, then save, close, and reopen the file to see if they remain intact. If you observe any improper behavior, please let us know. It would help to have a copy of your document for testing.

Yes, I did!
