NWP 3: Great news!

Post by David Sharp » 2018-10-23 23:08:34

Having just installed it, I haven't had time to try out any of the new features; I've simply noticed that my 5.2 Mb daily notes file renders much faster under the new version than under the previous one.

But to be quite honest, I'm delighted to be given an opportunity to pay some actual money to Nisus, a company whose business model seems to me to be frugal to say the least. I note that each time I've bought a new Mac in recent years, I've found myself repurchasing a complete edition of Microsoft Office: there may be a way to avoid this, but each time I've found their sign-up conditions so complicated, and their insistence on shooting me up into the "Cloud" so irritating that I've simply resigned myself to repurchasing the thing. All in order, basically, to use Excel every day for my accounts and to very occasionally open a file that someone sends me in ".docx" format.

The contrast with Nisus couldn't be starker. Not only can I pass from one Mac to the other using the same license key, but each time I have a question I know where to go to ask it. There's no pressure, implicit or explicit, to cough up more cash, or to provide my date of birth, purchase history or be put in touch with "friends" I've never heard of, and who may or may not be actual human beings.

All of this is great, but it has often made me wonder whether Nisus was not yet another of the many companies that was about to vanish, swallowed up in the ongoing craziness of Silicon Valley capitalism.
OK: this message is in danger of turning into yet another rant.
I simply hope this new version will be a great success, both technically and commercially! Go Nisus!

Nisus continues to be an indispensable tool for heavy word processing. The new features (some of which asked by the users in the past) make it even more pleasant to use. It's an evolutionary upgrade, but it's good evolution.

G’day, Martin et al

Great to see a new version of NWP. I agree with David about shunting some money in Nisus’s direction. It’s important, too, not to go down the subscription route: that would be a deal-breaker for me, as it has been with other software.

Thanks to Martin and the team for implementing split view at long last. Well done! Small request in that regard: adding to the View item in the Toolbar the ability to remove the last split in the stack.

Cheers,

Thank you so much for your post David, it really was generous of you and beyond kind. We really appreciate it and love to hear from happy customers :)

Thanks to everyone else too — Paolo, Adrian, and all others onboard for Nisus Writer Pro 3 — for supporting what we do at Nisus.

Split View really was one of the top requested features from our users. I'm glad you'll enjoy it!

We do have a command to close a split via the menu View > Split View > Remove Split, but that affects the active split, not necessarily the last split. If you use it often you could create a custom toolbar item for that command, or (of course) assign it a custom keyboard shortcut. If you right-click a split's divider bar the contextual menu also has commands to close either of the adjacent splits.

The results list for Find and Replace matches is a great new feature in NWP 3. Thanks for that.

Indeed, very good news!! I downloaded the new version but hadn't time to look at all the new features. But the new look is cool, Split View is phantastic. I use Nisus since 1992 and I still love it. Thank you very much. Regards, Beurlen

It took me about five minutes from the receipt of the Nisus Newsletter to purchase 3.0 Pro.

After all those years, I was fully convinced not to see any real update of Nisus anymore. So I couldn't believe my eyes when this morning I discovered that Nisus 3.0 was out: not an update, but a full blown upgrade with tons of new features and enhancements! Excellent news; congratulations to Martin and his team!

I'd like to add my voice to the chorus here and say how happy I was to be able to pay for Nisus again. I believe I purchased my copy of v 1.4(?) back in 2009 or 2010. It made writing my master's dissertation so, so much easier, and has continued to be my go-to.

Now, the only thing I really miss in Nisus compared to my code editor is vim keybindings… :drunk:

Thanks again martin and all the rest of the team :D
