first page special...

Post by Stoic »

I'm trying NWE again, as an alternative to Mellel, and I'm trying to figure out how to have the header "Page X of Y" appear at the top of each page but the first. Right now I've got it on every page, including the first.

Hi, Stoic. Hope you like NWE.

To make the first-page header different from the header on following pages, visit the Section palette. It's in the Tool drawer, in the fourth palette group. (Click the fourth button at the top of the tool drawer. The button looks like a piece of blank paper with margins indicated.)

In the Section palette, put a check in the "Different First Page" box under "Header and Footer."

Back in your document, make any changes necessary to your first-page and subsequent-page headers.

I really tend to see this as a problem with the NWE GUI. I'd like to see the following changes:

1) Page numbering/formatting issues shouldn't be in "sections."

2) In fact, the "sections" palette should be renamed "document."

3) "Page numbers" should be its own palette in the "formatting" group

4) "Columns" should either be its own palette or rolled into "formatting."

5) "Writing" should be renamed "languages"
