## Can't read files with equations

### Can't read files with equations

I have some word .doc files with a lot of equations in them. NWE reads the file sans equations. The regular type is there but the equation objects are simply missing. Attempts to cut and paste from the Word document to NWE crash Word, so I can't test that way of moving the equations.

When I create an equation object in word, it pastes without problems into NWX. This works whether I select the equation object in the word document or in the word equation editor. The equation objects are converted into graphics objects.

Although NWX ordinarily opens word .DOC files without problems, for some reason it does not preserve equations when doing so.

However if you first save the word document as an RTF file (or convert to RTF with MacLinkPlus), equations ARE preserved.

If they will survive an rtf trip, surely this is a small bug in NWE that could be fixed.

The only equations I ever had were in fact vulgar fractions that I'd created with the equation editor, so they were really small.

What would happen would be that either before or after the fraction, I can't remember which, there would be a very large space indeed, I think it was over a page, maybe more. The solution was to delete the fraction.

Fortunately I don't have too many of these fractions created by the Equation Editor of old.

Today of course with unicode we have a set of rather nice fractions (albeit still vulgar) to put in without creating them with the Equation Editor
